Questions for Marcelo Oillataguerre
Hey guys, Joe A. here with another one for ya’! So this next meetup is a pretty cool opportunity to talk with @Marcelo Oillataguerre , aka, The Niche Fragrance Collector, and since time will be limited, I personally don’t want to waste the moment asking the usual ā€œwhat’s your favorite fragrance?ā€ type of questions! Don’t get me wrong, favorite scent questions are fun. We all love hearing what someone with a serious nose reaches for. But when you’re talking to someone who has smelled deep into the niche world, traveled through a lot of brands, explored different styles and built a real point of view around fragrance, I think the better question is not just 'what do you like?' It’s more like 'how do you think about fragrance now?' Right now, one question I’m leaning toward is this: ----------ā€œWith niche fragrance becoming more mainstream and more expensive, what separates a truly artistic niche release from one that is just wearing the "costume" of niche?ā€---------- That one interests me because we are living in a strange fragrance era. Everything is ā€œexclusive,ā€ everything is ā€œextrait,ā€ everything has a dramatic bottle, a moody campaign and a price tag that looks like it comes with a monthly payment plan. But does that automatically make it art? Or are some brands just throwing on a velvet jacket and charging admission? The other question I’m considering is: ----------ā€œAfter smelling as much as you have, what has changed the most about your own taste over the years?ā€---------- Because honestly, that might be the real collector question. Most of us start this hobby chasing compliments, performance, hype or whatever bottle the algorithm keeps shoving in our faces. But over time, your nose changes. Your patience changes. Your standards change. Sometimes the fragrance you've ignored two years ago becomes the one that finally makes sense! What say you, guys? If you only had a few minutes with a serious niche fragrance reviewer, what would you ask? Would you go for something practical, like underrated houses and buying advice, or would you ask something deeper about artistry, taste and the direction of the hobby? Conversely, what is one fragrance reviewer question you are absolutely tired of hearing? Love to hear from ya'!

THE FIRST SPRAY- Edition BDK (new series)
With new luxury perfumes always dropping, I think we could always use new and honest reviews of them. As someone who lives in a large city with access to a lot of high end perfumery, with boutiques only 15 minutes away, I get access to a lot of really good exclusive stuff, including new releases from luxury brands. So I’d love to start making this into a post series, where I go and try out new releases from brands, and then write brutally open and honest reviews about it. I’m thinking we could all use it, especially considering how risky it can be with blind buys or committing a lot of money to a bottle you might not like in the future. So to kickstart, I figured it would be a great place to open with the new line BDK Parfums dropped, The Studio Collection I was first made aware of it from a niche perfume store I’m a local at. This Saturday they do a release event with BDK’s owner, David Benedek. Sadly, I’m unable to attend the event, as I have some important meetings to get to on Saturday, but the owner of the store provided me with three samples for the line, and so I’ll still be able to review them. This is a truly special and interesting line, and one i’m excited to try out. There’s a lot of talk and expectation behind this line, as it’s commemorating the 10 year anniversary of this Maison. There’s three unique fragrances being released in this line, with distinctive, monotone bottles that still maintain the signature shape and bottles of the original. Each perfume is an extrait, around 40% perfume oil, and so expect a high performance and strong projection. While I’ll be going deeper into review later next week, I’ll do a little wrapup of them just to paint the picture. Silver Ceremony- A cold, green spicy, slightly metallic citrus, fragrance with a subtle leathery base. Stellar Silk- A rich, silky, smooth blend of vanilla, rose and oud Oud Paradisio- The BDK filtered cousin of Oud Maracuja. A tropical smelling mix of pineapple, leather, oud, bergamot, rose, and a highly unique accord of vanilla ice cream.

Amber Oil
Good morning gentlemen. I picked this up yesterday from an Asian Grocery store. $5. 12ml It’s very nice. Not much projection. I will update you on longevity. The only thing I can say comes close is spice bomb extreme. Definitely not 1:1 but that’s the only thing comes slightly close to it. Hemani's Premium Amber Concentrated Perfume Oil (Attar) is an alcohol-free, deeply resinous blend. Rather than a traditional, highly distinct three-tier pyramid, its note profile evolves as a linear, long-lasting oriental scent featuring warm spice and sweet undertones: - Top Notes: Sparking fruit and citrus with fresh, aromatic oriental spices. - Heart Notes: Delicate floral and traditional botanical facets. - Base Notes: Deep, rich, and grounding amber blended with a warm touch of musk. I’m not getting much citrus.
