Slay the Scent:Ā Reef 33 by Reef Perfumes
Reef 33 is an Oriental Woody fragrance that has garnered significant acclaim since its launch in 2020 by the Saudi Arabian luxury house, Reef Perfumes. Designed as a unisex scent, it represents a bridge between traditional Middle Eastern & modern French perfumery. The fragrance was composed by the French perfumer Kevin Mathys. Reef 33 has quickly become one of the brand's bestsellers, often described as an accessible entry into the world of oud-based fragrances. That said I do have a personal preference for Reef 31. 33 is defined by its minimalist yet potent three-tier structure. It opens with a bold, luxurious burst of Indian Saffron, which adds a warm, spicy, slightly metallic introduction. As the initial spice settles, the heart reveals a crisp and aromatic note of Rosemary. This herbal inclusion is the fragrance's secret weapon, for a clean, refreshing contrast that prevents the scent from becoming overly heavy. Finally, the composition anchors itself in a deep, resinous base of Agarwood. This oud provides a smoky, woody foundation that lends the fragrance its signature depth. In terms of performance, Reef 33 is a not as strong as you might expect, whilst most oud scents tend to be on the beastly side of the scale, 33 is much tamer. You can expect around 5hrs on skin creating a noticeable aura that gradually transitions into a more intimate scent bubble. Best suited for the fall and winter months, as the cold air allows the oud and saffron to bloom beautifully without becoming cloying. While it is versatile enough for cool evening outings.
