What is a "flanker" anyways? (re-up'd)
Hey guys, Joe A. here with another one for ya'! If you’re just getting started in this crazy fragrance hobby, you can't doom scroll more than 10 clips before coming across the term “flanker.” You might be thinking… what in the world are these guys talking about? Simply put, a flanker is a variation of an existing fragrance. The original scent is the foundation, and the flanker takes that DNA and tweaks it a bit. Maybe it gets sweeter, darker, fresher, stronger, lighter, or more “intense.” The goal is to keep the recognizable character of the original while offering a different spin on it. Think of it like your favorite burger joint adding a bacon version, a spicy version, or a double-stack version. Same core idea, different flavor. A classic example many of us know is the Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette, which later spawned flankers like Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum, Dior Sauvage Parfum, and Dior Sauvage Elixir. They all share the Sauvage DNA, but each one leans a little differently in strength, spice, sweetness or depth. Same family, different personalities. Flankers are a big part of the fragrance world these days. Some people love them because they take a scent they already enjoy and give it a fresh twist. Others roll their eyes because sometimes it feels like brands are squeezing every last drop out of a popular name. Truth is… both can be true. Some flankers are incredible upgrades, while others feel like the fragrance equivalent of a movie sequel nobody asked for. What say you, guys? Do you have a flanker that you actually prefer over the original? Are there any flankers you think completely surpassed the OG scent? And, let's be real here, is there anyone here who hasn’t fallen for at least one flanker along the way? Love to hear from ya’! P.S. I've included a YouTube link to a Gents Scents video that I believe does a good job explaining this further. Redundant for us fragheads, but I hope it's useful for you beginners! https://youtu.be/cBojLnVNoO4?si=GIJeUhtZx4bllGRr
