Sun protection and natural hygiene
Hello everybody, I have a question about sun protecting. Some days ago, I heard a long term raw vegan, talking about regretting non having used sun protection products for years. I was wondering what other raw vegans were doing. Personally, I am mixed and I tan easily, so I never was really worried about it. I would mostly put some sunscreen for the first hot day in swimwear and then only on my face or sometimes even not just protecting my face with a hat when sunbathing or hiking. On the mountain when hiking I would sometimes put on some sunscreen too or when traveling and going to the beach. But I never had the occasion to experience tropical sun during the summer, so more intense one, to really worry. But yeah, now I ask myself questions and I would be grateful for sharings.
Celery alternatives?
Where I live, celery is pretty much inedible in summer. I feel like its a crucial component of the raw vegan diet, and I'm not really sure what to do without it. any suggestions?
Hypoglycemia
Hi everyone, I have been following to the 80-10-10 lifestyle since June 2025. The worse splurges for me are nori sheets when I crave a little “denser” foods but otherwise I’ve been following it strictly. I’m saying this just to define further my 80-10-10 lifestyle, as sometimes it's hard to tell what a person does or does not eat even when claiming NH adherence. I have an issue I'd like feedback/help with. It seems like about 1/4th of days I get hypoglycemic by about 11 am, yet I eat about 800-900 kcal in fruits for breakfast regularly, whether its melon, or papaya, or mangoes, or banana smoothie with berries. Im 4'11 so i consider my necessary caloric intake to be around 2000kcal/day, but have been eating slighly more lately given im wanting to gain weight. This phenomenon never happens in the afternoon. Prior to making the change to 811rv I was still eating pretty close to this diet however i had fats such as avocados and nuts or seeds with my fruits for breakfast and a cooked meal for dinner, but was 100% vegan with lots of raw and cooked. vegetables. No dairy + gluten for over 20 years. It is fairly annoying, completely disrupts work as I can't think clearly or speak fluidly until i eat something. Even drinking water, a bunch of it, doesn't help. Eating more for breakfast doesn’t prevent the issue. I’d like to ask others if this has happened or is happening to them, as for me, i didn't use to struggle with this before I became a frutarian. Also, any advice appreciated. Thank you!
Angular cheilitis
I've had more episode of angular cheilitis since starting my raw 811 journey in June 2025 than ever before. And they're painful! I hear its caused by nutrient deficiency (B2, B12, zinc..?) and/or bacterial/fungal infection. So in a diet that supposedly provides all we, humans, need, why is this happening so much more frequently? I can barely open my mouth with those painful fissures...
Winter problem
This is my first Winter following 811rv (started in June 2025). This is also my first winter dealing with a strange issue. Starting around November I started experiencing finger swelling and pain at night. I travelled to CA for 12 days and the condition totally resolved. However, after being back for about a week it started again. It lasted till I traveled south again. I stayed in CA one week, then went to HI, then Guam, and then two weeks in Ecuador. Once I came back, the fingers started swelling and later on fissuring within a week of being back. My father is insisting that I increase my fat intake , suggesting cor liver oil, claiming that it has always been part of the diet of northern climate dwellers. I want to stay true to 811rv but I find it strange that this wasnt an issue in previous years. If anyone has any suggestions I’m opened to hearing them. The swelling mostly affects my fifth fingers of both hands, and now it’s starting to affect my middle one.
