Winter problem
This is my first Winter following 811rv (started in June 2025). This is also my first winter dealing with a strange issue. Starting around November I started experiencing finger swelling and pain at night. I travelled to CA for 12 days and the condition totally resolved. However, after being back for about a week it started again. It lasted till I traveled south again. I stayed in CA one week, then went to HI, then Guam, and then two weeks in Ecuador. Once I came back, the fingers started swelling and later on fissuring within a week of being back. My father is insisting that I increase my fat intake , suggesting cor liver oil, claiming that it has always been part of the diet of northern climate dwellers. I want to stay true to 811rv but I find it strange that this wasnt an issue in previous years. If anyone has any suggestions I’m opened to hearing them. The swelling mostly affects my fifth fingers of both hands, and now it’s starting to affect my middle one.

@Nellie Nadeau Oh my! I see you live in Alaska of all places. What are your temperatures in winter? Where in Alaska are you?

@Nellie Nadeau Yes but how cold? Exceptionally cold may be why your hands are swelling! Are you out in temps below freezing? What is the chill factor? Your hands may be more sensitive to the freezing temperatures.
Fully Raw Retreats
Are there any planned fully raw retreats coming up with Dr. Doug? I know the one in June is coming up but that looks like it’s both cooked and raw vegan, not all raw. I’m interested in the 801010.

@Dr. Janie Unruh I'm looking at woodstock too! So many amazing places for raw food gatherings this summer!
Wondering about sleep habits
I'm happy to say my GI challenge seems to be loving psyllium husk powder. Now I'd like to learn more about sleep. I have never slept through the night and being on raw food I wake and go back to sleep several times through the night. It's anywhere from 2 times a night to every 2 hours. Sometimes I go right back to sleep but at times I'm just not sleepy and I sit and read until I think I can sleep again. Sometimes it's an hour and sometimes it can be half the night. Can others share what their sleep is like since going raw? Let me know age. I am 70 years young. I used to sleep like a rock but going raw has changed everything! Not in a bad way. I still have loads of energy during the day too.

I am here in Costa Rica on retreat with Dr Graham and I'm learning tons. Fine tuning over the six weeks I am here already is making a difference! I am 70 and my memory is fine but my recall needs practice!

@Doug Graham I am sleeping so much better since the retreat! Maybe twice a night I get up to pee and go right back to sleep! Yay! 80/10/10, no snacks and no eating at night! Makes a big difference!
Question about food combining
Would you eat honeydew melon and papaya at the same meal? (I guess the answer is "no", but I want to be sure). Thanks.

For 20 days I've been in Goa eating beautiful bowls of papaya, melon and pineapple! Sometimes three in a day. Heaven!
I wonder if there is help for bowel movements being diarrhea.
Who do we go to that won't just want to treat the symptoms? Does anyone else have this? We are getting nervous about going places because there isn't much time when the bowel wants to empty and there is not really any consistency of timing with it. How do you all cope and is this common? I have been raw for over a year this time and BMs were fine until I did a 40 day juice fast in December 2024. I was incontinent every day of both bowel and bladder and wore depends during the fast but over the last nine months I have graduated to a small pad because my butt "leaks" clear fluid to green fluid and I never know when but it can soak my underwear if I don't have a pad there. I never know when I'm going to dump a bunch of diarrhea and when my gut lets me know it is coming I have very little time to get to a toilet. I am fine seeing an MD but I want someone raw or who won't tell me I have to eat cooked food. My spouse eats cooked food and he is having the same problem with pain in his gut. I don't have any pain. Both of us love being active walking and biking. The walking definitely stimulates the bowels so we have to take measures to avoid wetting and soiling outselves like wear depends or take stuff to go in the bushes and not leave toilet paper on the ground. I take zip lock bags and bring it back home. Please help. I kept thinking it would heal itself because I love that my bowels are active after so many years of constipation (50) and another 15 years of better but not great BMS on the SAD. WEnt vegan five years ago and things started to change for the better. Now I've gone too far the other way.

@Doug Graham upping pysllium husk power to a tablespoon a day and being consistent has made a difference once again and I am encouraged.
