Growth Mindset Week 1 — Let’s Begin
All right, let’s kick off our growth mindset journey. And any talk about growth mindset really needs to start with one of the pioneers—Carol Dweck. If this challenge sparks something in you, her book on growth mindset is incredible and worth a read. But first, let’s just get clear on what we’re even talking about. Sometimes, the best way to understand growth mindset is to contrast it with fixed mindset. 🧠 Growth mindset is the belief that we’re not static. That we can learn, grow, and figure things out. People with this mindset tend to approach challenges differently—they’re more resilient because they believe they can work through it. ⚠️ Fixed mindset, on the other hand, often shows up with perfectionism. It’s the idea that you’re either good or bad at something. That success is innate. There’s usually a fear of failure and a tendency to give up quickly. You stick to what you already know. You might feel jealous when others succeed. You avoid trying new things. The growth mindset voice says: “I can figure this out.” “I might not be good at it yet.” “Failure = feedback.” “This is a chance to grow.” And I think the biggest trap is thinking we’re either one or the other. But you’re not just a growth mindset or just a fixed mindset. I see this in practice all the time. Someone might have a total growth mindset at work—but when it comes to nutrition or movement, that fixed mindset language sneaks in: “I always fall off track.” “I’m not consistent.” “I suck at planning meals.” We’ll be talking a lot more this month about how to spot fixed mindset language (especially in health + lifestyle stuff). You’ll get really good at noticing it. But for today, I want you to reflect on this: 📌 Reflection Prompt Instead of labelling yourself one or the other… JOURNAL/REFLECTION PROMPT 🟡 Where in your life do you tend to show up with a growth mindset? 🟡 And where do you notice that fixed mindset creeping in? Let it be honest. No need to fix anything right now. Just start noticing.
