Smart casual & minimal - 1 July
Today, dressed up without layering for a quick office visit. This is a simple yet neat smart-casual outfit. The shirt is checkered in three colors - burgundy, blue, and white The trousers are in merino wool-polyester (70:30) MTM, in white with thin blue stripes The shoes are brown derbies The watch is tan strap and gold-on-silver frame The belt is tan The socks are in light beige (sand?) I wanted to coordinate the whites in the shirt with the white trousers. This is one of the few occasions when I wore white trousers. Let me know what you think guys.

Gold, grey Double forward 3/2
This suit I hade made in 1995. It is the same design of Classic timeless menswear Ive worn since around 1980. In fact at Harold’s it was the only model we sold: 3 buttons with a 2 button roll, double forward pleats, cuffed trousers. It’s a design that basically harkens back at least 90 years. For accessories I chose a white with blue stripe CT shirt and a Brooks Brother’s goldish yellow tie, black captoes and a 1940’s Bulova watch. Regarding pleats- pleats roll in and out of the fashion world but have remained a staple of classic tiles style for a very long time. The forward pleat (see pic where a manufacturer mislabels reverse pleats provided) are my favorite. They are less common but when they armed nice and deep they have such a superior silhouette to the reverse pleats. They don’t look as bunched up especially when sitting. The secret for pleats to work is to never wear them too low on the waist. If I were having a new suit made I would keep with this timeless design. Very few stores still sell the 3/2 roll coat, J Press being one of the few. However for the double front pleat J Press sticks with the single. Ben Silver keeps the classic double. Ralph Lauren and a few manufacturers like Samuelsohn still has them as well.

Practical, yet Polished
South Texas business casual has to be practical as much as it is polished. With temperatures climbing above 95°F today and a schedule that has me moving in and out of buildings, I built this outfit around breathable comfort—a cream textured knit polo, olive trousers, cognac ostrich boots and belt, topped with a light straw cowboy hat. The tailored silhouette keeps it boardroom-appropriate, while the Western elements reflect where I live and work without sacrificing professionalism. Sometimes the best style isn’t about dressing for the weather or the office—it’s about dressing confidently for both.
