SOTD - Irish Leather by Memo Paris
After the decent-yet-unsatisfying double whammy of the African and French Leathers, today's third installment of the Memo discovery set's Leather Trilogy. Would this scent manage to buck the trend and deliver a true leather masterpiece? The short answer is... no. But it gave it a damn good go. We start off with a much lighter touch than I expected. There's a fruitiness present, slightly citrus, slightly green, which gives way quickly to a delicate floral freshness that's not overpowering or powdery. When the leather comes, which it quickly does, it's tempered by a woody greenness that's likely Vetiver in nature. It all comes together well, a rolling field and pasture of a fragrance that's warm and welcoming, rural and wild. The leather is a working leather, nothing tempered or refined. It's an honest leather. Again, the performance is good. It lasted a long while on my skin, what felt like eight hours plus. And again, it felt like a design choice to dial back the projection. It was an intimate affair rather quickly, which didn't feel an imposition. As with the previous two, I did like the overall scent. And, as with the African offering, the only qualm I had was the power of the projection. But as I'm sampling more leathers from the house, maybe I need to temper my expectations in that regard. Memo is a house with what feels like infinite leather options. They specialise. They demonstrably know their onions. Who am I to argue that they are wrong? I won't be pursuing a bottle of this, but it is a fine fragrance nonetheless. Tomorrow is a day off the disco set while I try out the new Stronger With You Spices. Then, from Monday, back at it!
