Questions for Marcelo Oillataguerre
Hey guys, Joe A. here with another one for ya’! So this next meetup is a pretty cool opportunity to talk with @Marcelo Oillataguerre , aka, The Niche Fragrance Collector, and since time will be limited, I personally don’t want to waste the moment asking the usual ā€œwhat’s your favorite fragrance?ā€ type of questions! Don’t get me wrong, favorite scent questions are fun. We all love hearing what someone with a serious nose reaches for. But when you’re talking to someone who has smelled deep into the niche world, traveled through a lot of brands, explored different styles and built a real point of view around fragrance, I think the better question is not just 'what do you like?' It’s more like 'how do you think about fragrance now?' Right now, one question I’m leaning toward is this: ----------ā€œWith niche fragrance becoming more mainstream and more expensive, what separates a truly artistic niche release from one that is just wearing the "costume" of niche?ā€---------- That one interests me because we are living in a strange fragrance era. Everything is ā€œexclusive,ā€ everything is ā€œextrait,ā€ everything has a dramatic bottle, a moody campaign and a price tag that looks like it comes with a monthly payment plan. But does that automatically make it art? Or are some brands just throwing on a velvet jacket and charging admission? The other question I’m considering is: ----------ā€œAfter smelling as much as you have, what has changed the most about your own taste over the years?ā€---------- Because honestly, that might be the real collector question. Most of us start this hobby chasing compliments, performance, hype or whatever bottle the algorithm keeps shoving in our faces. But over time, your nose changes. Your patience changes. Your standards change. Sometimes the fragrance you've ignored two years ago becomes the one that finally makes sense! What say you, guys? If you only had a few minutes with a serious niche fragrance reviewer, what would you ask? Would you go for something practical, like underrated houses and buying advice, or would you ask something deeper about artistry, taste and the direction of the hobby? Conversely, what is one fragrance reviewer question you are absolutely tired of hearing? Love to hear from ya'!

Is Louis Vuitton Pacific Chill actually worth it, or should I just get a dupe?
Been looking at Louis Vuitton Pacific Chill lately and I can’t decide if it’s worth dropping that much money on a fragrance. Also the reviews I find on other platforms seem to all be glazing the hell out of it so I’m not sure if I should trust them haha. For anyone who’s owned it: How’s the performance and longevity? Do you get compliments from it? Does it smell noticeably better than the popular dupes? If you’ve tried both, is the real thing worth the extra $$$? Trying to figure out whether to save up for the original or grab a dupe and call it a day. Interested to hear some honest opinions
Figuring out what fragrances I like
This is a bit of a weird question but I am genuinely wondering how I know if I like a fragrance. I sometimes can tell that I like something but then other times I'm waffling. Yesterday I tried on Tom Ford noir de noir and liked it because smells sweet at the beginning but then liked it less and less as the day went on and I was waffling cuz I like it oh I don't oh I like it and I don't I couldn't make up my mind. It smelled a little bit like more than words by Xerjoff which I tried a few days before that and love. Also I use the fragrance recommender on wiki perfume and I'm wondering how to make the most of the algorithm and not be too relaxed or strict on what I like or dislike.

Frag haul! Two delightful Rayhaans
As we head into the summer months, I needed to round out my warm weather collection with a few grab and go cheapies. Sampled both of these outstanding Rayhaans and just knew I had to pull the trigger. - Adonis Icarus: Juicy, super delicious orange. I get a touch of woodiness and light musk in the dry down, mostly this is just a citrus bomb. Unless I’m going nose blind, I get about two hours of very good projection, two hours of soft projection, then it’s a delicious skin scent for a few more hours. This scent just makes me happy. I’ve got a decant of afternoon swim — I haven’t worn them side-by-side, but this is definitely very close to it. And it’s got a magnetic cap! Impressive value for the 30 bucks I spent on it - Aquatica: tangy, lightly musky delicious lime pina colada. I’m still getting to know this one, but I really like it. I’ve never sampled virgin Island water, but I hear this is a close inspiration of that one. I threw some on last night before bed and I could still smell it on me this morning as light skin scent, but I couldn’t tell you yet how long the projection lasts. But this one is also super delicious.
