64 days into a double-elimination tournament, we're down to four fragrances in the main bracket and eight more in the second-chance bracket, so I can safely say these dozen are my favorites from my collection (ignoring the few new purchases I've made during the past two months). Match #64 in the second-chance bracket pits the brightness and freshness of YSL Y Le Parfum (2025) against the mature, woody-musky sophistication of Narciso Rodriguez Bleu Noir EDP. Y Le Parfum is the louder of the two. That fresh, almost pine tree opening—with citrus, ginger, pine, and aromatics—has plenty of presence, and it eventually settles into a pleasant woody base of amber and patchouli. It projects more than the Narciso Rodriguez and lasts longer on my skin. Bleu Noir takes the quieter approach. Musk, vetiver, cedar, amber, and woods create a beautifully blended fragrance from the very first whiff. It's smooth, subtle, mature, and sophisticated. The tradeoff is that it doesn't evolve appreciably during the drydown. What you get early is largely what you get several hours later—although what you get is very good. This one gave me trouble. I've gone back and forth several times, and the Fragrantica rankings would apparently tell me I'm making the wrong decision. So be it. This tournament has never been about choosing the fragrance I'm supposed to prefer. It comes down to one question: Which one would I actually reach for more often? And my answer is YSL. Y Le Parfum survives another round. Narciso Rodriguez Bleu Noir EDP is eliminated from the tournament. Sometimes versatility and sheer wearability win the day—even when the fragrance gurus may tell me otherwise.
