Stop Waiting for the "Perfect Time" (It’s Not Coming)
Hey Crew! Today I want to talk about the power of starting. Over the past 30+ years of coaching movement, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard: “I’m going to start when [insert excuse here].” Then I watch them never start. Look, sometimes there’s a legitimate mountain in the way. But let’s be real, most of the time, that’s the exception, not the norm. We use "the perfect plan" as a shield to keep us from doing the hard stuff. I am a big believer in starting small, seeing what happens, and adapting from there. Case in Point: My New VO2 Max Experiment I’m starting a protocol called the Norwegian 4x4. The basics? - 4 minutes of high-intensity effort (90% max HR). - 3 minutes of active recovery. - Repeat 4 times. I t’s brutal. I have my reasons for starting this that I’ll share in time, but today? I only did one 4-minute interval. Could I have done more? Sure. But I want to go to Jiu Jitsu tomorrow and actually have a good practice. If everything feels good tomorrow, then next week I might do two intervals. Or I might stick with one, depending on how I feel that day. But here’s what I know for sure: 1 interval is better than 0 intervals. Accountability Check-In We overcomplicate the "how" because we’re afraid of the "do." If you wait until you can do the "perfect" workout, you’ll be waiting until you’re 80. Coach Check: What is one thing you are putting off starting because it feels too big or too much? What is the "one interval" version of that goal you could start today and improve on over the next 3 months? Ready to Stop Guessing? If you're tired of "managing" your training and you're ready to build a body that actually shows up when you ask it to, you need a system that adapts to your life—not the other way around. I’m hosting a Webinar on March 19th from 6-7pm EST, where I’m breaking down the exact framework we use to take athletes from "constantly injured" to elite performance in their 40s, 50s, and 60s.
