We all have our icons and people that affected our childhoods along with our earliest perspectives. When I saw that Chuck Norris passed away today, I grabbed my chest. It felt like I lost someone dear to me that I actually knew. I sort of did.
When I was six , he was one of the first martial arts movie stars that ever influenced me, from a movie called Good Guys Where Black. If that sounds familiar, itās because GGBB - Good Guys Build Backs, is named after that 1978 gem. It was his second martial arts film, and the first one where he was the main character.
His first appearance was the ending fight scene in the Bruce Lee film Way Of The Dragon, which is where our WOH - Way Of The Hurdler classroom series got its name. Bruce Lee, and Chuck Norris are both indirectly responsible for my love of martial arts as well as me seeking the opportunity to train in it. Fast forward many years of work, struggle, and opportunity, and here we are. FLEāTHEORY exists because of the dramatic influences both of these men had on a wide eyed child. I never got to meet either of them. Bruce Lee died when I was an infant Chuck Norris persisted and became his own category of icon. I will always be grateful to how he influenced me without ever knowing. Rest easy. šš½
