Why Some Men Command Respect Instantly
A Spring Ding-a-ling
The combination of living in Southern CA where we barely have seasons and my limited exposure to truly learning about men's classic business attire means that I do not give seasonality much consideration. And yet, this year I feel the pull to stay away from my wardrobe items that are clearly autumnal and wintery. This shift, however, has left me in a bit of a vacuum. This is compounded by my overall displeasure with pastels. I don't mind the core colors of pastels but do not like their washed out look on me. I get that lighter colored suits are more common, but that my grays and navies still work. From there, I am at a loss. How do shoes vary in Spring? Accent items like ties, squares, and belts/suspenders? Vests? Do client meetings trump seasonality decisions when selecting the suit, etc.? I welcome all input and guidance from the brain trust on here. Thanks, in advance!

Another hot day. Yesterday set records for heat on SPD all over Los Angeles. At least it won't be yesterday's 93... while still in winter. Continue to be pumped about next 2 months of growth for the company. Outfit: • Suit — SJ‑010 & SL‑019 (Ralph Lauren Green Label): A light‑brown Ralph Lauren Green Label suit in a refined basket‑weave wool, offering subtle texture and a warm, approachable tone. The fabric reads business‑appropriate while remaining relaxed enough for leadership presence without stiffness—ideal for in‑person internal meetings where authority and approachability must coexist. • Shirt — DS‑031 (Charles Tyrwhitt): A Charles Tyrwhitt French‑cuff dress shirt in lilac with a Burlington‑weave Prince of Wales check, providing visual interest without overpowering the suit. The soft purple hue harmonizes beautifully with brown tailoring while the French cuffs elevate the ensemble into true executive territory. • Undershirt — US‑018 (Pro Club): A purple Pro Club cotton undershirt that aligns cleanly with the shirt’s lilac tone, preventing contrast bleed‑through. Heavyweight cotton provides structure and moisture control for all‑day wear under wool tailoring. • Tie — NT‑032 (Fort Belvedere): A Fort Belvedere mélange silk knit tie blending brown, blue, red, green, and cream in a textured square‑end profile. The knit construction softens the formality of the suit just enough while maintaining intentional polish—perfect for confident, modern leadership dressing. • Pocket Square — PS‑007 (Fort Belvedere): A wool‑and‑silk Fort Belvedere pocket square with a purple base and multicolor paisley detailing. The colors echo the shirt and tie without direct matching; presented best in a relaxed puff fold to complement the knit tie’s texture. • Belt — B‑011 (Hanks): The Hanks “Esquire Raised” Havana‑brown leather belt with white edge stitching and a silver buckle. The raised profile and stitching add quiet craftsmanship while staying fully aligned with the brown leather story of the outfit.
