Eulogy to a great guy
My last uncle, Dr Gary Rahe was the cool one. A well respected , witty, handsome, oncologist, and hematologist he had been the Chief Resident of St Anthony’s hospital in Oklahoma City. Always the straight man his clever comebacks and quiet sharp wit made every family get together full of laughs (especially when he dipped into his temperature controlled extensive wine cellar). He and my other Uncle on that side of the family were the closest thing to a Sinatra, Martin comedy routine in the family. My contemporary cousin was son was too torn up to speak so I was asked to do the honor at his funeral yesterday. I chose to dress a bit less mournfully than simply black because I knew my uncle very well. While riddled with physical issues, he still was the perfect up beat host just as recently as this past Christmas. He would have abhorred a celebration that wasn’t jovial. So here is my OOTD: 1995 navy MTM herringbone suit PoW blue shirt - Charles Trywitt (w Guinness links) Two sides pocket square tattersall/seersucker RL blackwatch bow tie Byford OTC navy socks Black captoe J Fitzpatrick shoes 1940-s Bulova watch My wife made a day of it celebrating the years of excellent food and memories with him. While in OKC we stopped by my now favorite clothier (Steve Giles) with whom I worked together at Harold’s. I had two pair of slacks fitted I had bought earlier by phone and I broke down and bough a 60% off sport coat. (Will post when all are tailored). We also popped no to a great restaurant next door. My Uncle Gary would have liked that use of the day.
