In March, we worked from a standing start to a win. A group came together - we sorted out internal strife, aligned efforts and got a candidate elected to a Town Council.
On May 7th we face our next election. This time seven candidates over a much larger area. Instead of 200 voters, we are now working with 70,000.
But even as we do that we need to support our new Town Councillor. It is one thing to win and another to get the Town to change direction and appreciate the work needed to mitigate against the Climate Crisis.
From lofty world-changing ambitions to... the silent treatment from the Town Clerk, who has an empire of his own and who does not like the new upstart councillor. Time for a new lesson on what he needs to feel to move from resistance to assistance. The issue is not how best to fight him; instead, it is about how to help him adapt.
Our new lesson handles the challenge of getting accepted, finding allies, and befriending enablers.
The climate crisis is coming our way - it can be mitigated by action at all levels of government all over the world. The names may change, but the issues are the same.
It takes leadership, patience and compassion to move the needle, and it may well start with how Town Clark is brought on board.
