Wore Hombre to dinner last night, came home, got some sleep, and I can still detect it on my skin several hours later. That’s a good result, especially from a fragrance built around citrus, aromatic herbs, and woods. What it smells like: Bergamot, lemon, and sweet orange give Hombre a bright citrus opening. Think fresh citrus peel with some sweetness from the orange. Clary sage brings an herbal, slightly earthy character, connecting that freshness to the vetiver and cedarwood underneath. As the brighter notes settle, the fragrance moves toward dry woods and earthy vetiver. It’s a straightforward combination on paper, but there’s plenty of room for texture and development. Fresh enough for daytime, with a woody foundation that suits an evening out. What makes Hombre interesting: It has COSMOS Organic certification. That means it meets an independently assessed standard covering ingredient origin, required organic content, permitted processing methods, manufacturing, and packaging. It goes beyond simply putting “natural” or “organic” on a label. ATH also states that Hombre uses organic grain alcohol, is suitable for vegans, and contains no BHT. BHT stands for butylated hydroxytoluene. It’s a synthetic antioxidant used in some perfumes to slow oxidation helping protect fragrance ingredients from changes in smell and color caused by exposure to oxygen. It’s generally there to help stabilize the formula, rather than add a scent. When ATH says Hombre is BHT-free, it means that antioxidant isn’t included. That alone doesn’t mean the fragrance is safer, better, or longer-lasting. The certification doesn’t automatically make a fragrance smell better or last longer. What interests me is having those production standards alongside a fragrance I enjoy wearing and, on this occasion, staying power that carried through dinner and sleep. Performance: Several hours later, it’s still detectable close to my skin. That’s longevity, rather than a claim that it’s still projecting strongly or leaving the same trail it did earlier.

SOTD – YSL MYSLF L'Absolu
Today's SOTD is YSL MYSLF L'Absolu, making this the third consecutive day I've been trying brand-new (to me) fragrance samples. And apparently, I'm enjoying this little adventure so much that I've decided to extend it for a fourth day. There's a surprise newcomer waiting for tomorrow. But first, today's YSL. I already have a sample of MYSLF Le Parfum, which I've enjoyed without being completely convinced that I needed a full bottle. And while I still want to wear these two side by side before reaching any firm conclusions, I can already tell you that I prefer L'Absolu. The difference is largely in the direction YSL has taken the fragrance. Where Le Parfum emphasizes the warmer, sweeter combination of vanilla and amber, L'Absolu heads in a brighter, fresher direction. Ginger, citrus, and cardamom bring a lively, aromatic spiciness to the composition, while the orange blossom that helps define the MYSLF DNA remains very much in evidence. It's a combination I find particularly appealing. There's enough freshness to make it feel invigorating, enough spice to keep it interesting, and enough underlying sophistication to prevent it from becoming just another pleasant, forgettable fragrance. And perhaps its greatest strength is its versatility. I can easily imagine wearing L'Absolu in spring, summer, autumn, or winter. It doesn't strike me as a fragrance that needs a particular temperature, occasion, or wardrobe to work. It's simply something I could reach for almost any day of the year and feel confident wearing. That's a pretty valuable quality in a fragrance, especially when you're trying to become more selective about adding bottles to an already growing collection. I'll definitely be doing a side-by-side comparison with Le Parfum soon, because I want to give both a fair opportunity. But at the moment, L'Absolu has taken the lead. Current status: Three new samples in three days, and another winner. L'Absolu is my early favorite of the MYSLF fragrances I've tried. Side-by-side testing still to come—and a surprise fourth newcomer tomorrow!

SOTD – Prada Paradigme Le Parfum
Today's SOTD is Prada Paradigme Le Parfum, the second of three new samples that arrived earlier this week. And once again, Prada reminds me why I've become such a fan of the house. I already have a sample of the original Paradigme EDP, and I've enjoyed wearing it. But after my first experience with Le Parfum, I think I can safely say that I prefer this version. There's a little more depth and maturity here, with a rich combination of amber, balsamic notes, vanilla, and woods creating a wonderfully smooth, sophisticated fragrance. It's warm and inviting without becoming excessively sweet or heavy, and it has that polished quality I've come to associate with some of my favorite Prada fragrances. The original EDP is certainly appealing, but Le Parfum feels a little more substantial and refined to my nose. It's the sort of fragrance that seems particularly well suited to someone who appreciates a more understated kind of elegance. And apparently, that's increasingly where my tastes are taking me. I can easily imagine wearing this one through autumn, winter, and spring. Summer might be pushing things a little, but even then, I wouldn't hesitate to wear it for an evening event in an air-conditioned setting. It's versatile enough that I wouldn't feel obligated to put it away for three months of the year. Of course, this is only my first wearing, and I have plenty of sample left to explore. But unlike some fragrances that leave me wondering whether I want to revisit them, I'm already looking forward to my next encounter with this one. The only thing keeping me from immediately considering a full bottle is the price. I've become much more selective about new purchases, and there's no reason to rush when I already have so many excellent fragrances to enjoy. But once Paradigme Le Parfum begins appearing at reputable discount sellers, I suspect I'll be paying close attention. Current status: An excellent first impression, and my clear preference over the original EDP. A strong candidate for the future purchase list—especially once the price comes down.

I bought the 50 ml bottle in blind buy last Christmas, and it was a big disappointment, just not my scent, too sweet, too much vanilla, perhaps too much amber (I'm not so good in understanding what bothers me). Luckily me 14 year old son loved it immediatly and already emptied the bottled (and asked for a new one 🤦‍♂️) !! And now his coming with me to the perfumeries to test new fragrances....a futur member of our Brotherhood !!
