Illness after going gluten-free?
Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well! I hope this is the right place to post. I’ve been gluten-free for about a month since my coeliac diagnosis, and I never had symptoms after eating gluten before. Now, once or twice a week, I feel very poorly after a meal and end up spending a long time in the bathroom. I was just wondering if this resonates with anyone else and/or there’s something I’ve been doing wrong? I’ve been so so careful! Thanks all 🫶

Hey :) sorry to hear that, that’s rubbish. I definitely have stronger reactions to tiny amounts of gluten after going gluten free than I did before. It was like my body suddenly knew what the enemy was and was telling me loud and clear! It’s really hard when you don’t know what it could be coming from. I can’t say I have the answers but I’d just go through everything you’re eating regularly, and things you’re using to eat with, and double checking for possibilities of cross contamination. Sorry i don’t have more exciting advice! If it’s only been a month though, things will improve :) Hope it gets better for you soon šŸ’›
Strength Building Workouts
Hi everyone! I’ve recently been diagnosed with Osteopenia after having a bone density scan. I want to try and get back into working out again to build strength. I dance twice a week as often as I can but find my back aching after a while. I wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations of good exercises to try in the gym / at home or any recommendations to how to get better at building a workout routine. I have very limited time in the week to work out so shorter the better haha. Thank you in advance!šŸ’—

Hey :) what I do is search on YouTube ā€˜pilates for back/ back pain/ lower back/ upper back’. There’s ones from 5 mins and up so you can squeeze it in whenever. I think pilates is the only thing that’s helped me stay consistent with pain management and strengthening. I found a local class that’s cheap on Class Pass but if I can’t go then a short YouTube video is ideal. I’d reccomend a specific one but tbh I just go through them all so I don’t get stuck on one type! Hope you find something that works for you :)
Brain Fog
Hi all. New here!! So I've been diagnosed with celiac disease and have had brain fog for about 2 months. I went gluten free 5 weeks ago and its gotten slightly better. My question is has anyone else dealt with this and how long did it take to go completely away? I still can't drive because of it.

Hey! I’ve struggled with brain fog too, you’re not alone with that, it’s really difficult. Have you looked into anti-inflammatory diet and lifestyle? I went through a phase of focussing all my energy on an anti inflammatory diet (loads of veg and no processed food and low sugar) and it did help me reset and get to a more manageable baseline. It’s hard to maintain all the time though. Even tiny amounts of gluten can give me brain fog so the more you learn about where it can show up and cross contamination, the less often you’ll have it. If it’s only been 5 weeks and you’ve had some improvement then stick with it! Let me know if you find anything else that helps you with the brain fog :)
Best places to travel as a df coeliac?
Hey team, just wanted to jump on and ask where are some places any of you have traveled to that have had good options for coeliacs (& dairy free)? I'm planning my honeymoon (yay!) and we would love to go to Europe (I'm from NZ), but I'm unsure where the best places/cities would be that are easier to find options to eat. The last place I want to have food anxiety is my honeymoon šŸ˜„

I went inter-railing solo about 6 months ago and was on a constant gf, df mission, Italy and Spain truly were the best for understanding cross contamination and not sacrificing on food quality and variety. Restored my faith! Congratulations and let us know where you go!
Newbie here
Hi everyone, I am very new to this and I’m currently stuck in the initial ā€˜feeling lost’ stage. I was originally tested for coeliac in 2017, as a blood test came back showing ā€˜positive’, however the endoscopy came back negative. Fast forward several years, my symptoms are worse, and at my post-op check up for my endometriosis surgery, I ask about endometriosis on the bowels. After listening to my symptoms, she felt I had IBD. More blood tests and a positive endoscopy later, I got my diagnosis just before Christmas. Marsh 1 coeliac disease. I did extensive research before my diagnosis, yet I still feel at a loss, I have no clue how to navigate this. Since being diagnosed and going gluten free, I have put on so much weight, now avoiding gf snacks full of sugar. I have since started my own baking due to the sheer cost of gf treats🄲 I am extremely fatigued ALL the time! I joined this group to see if others could help. I am open to your go-to’s, your ā€˜must avoids’, quick snacks for on the go that aren’t full of sugar, best places to shop, and anything that will get me through the day without falling asleep standing up! Any advice, tips and tricks are absolutely welcome!

Hey Rebecca! I have a very similar journey to you, I was dismissed for my coeliac symptoms, eventually had diagnostic surgery for endometriosis, then a couple years later got diagnosed with coeliac. I know how frustrating that is. I also did SO much research but still found the first year really difficult so I empathise. no amount of research helps as much as practise and talking to people. You’re not alone! I know everyone says it but it will get easier and the only way is through! My go-tos are - carrying snacks like bananas, gf bars, nuts - focussing on savoury food as much as pos, especially at the beginning of a meal - the Ditto supplement (supplements are tricky bc everyone’s so different but these help my fatigue and endo). Also finding things that ā€˜fill your cup’, doing things I actually enjoy, not just things I feel I 'should' do, gradually gives me more fuel. Take it easy, it’s a lot to go through! šŸ’›
