Steppin' Out with Chris Collins Sweet Taboo and Danse Sauvage
NOTE: Instead of a Scent Of The Day, I am introducing a fragrance I wore for going out on a date, attending a party, or simply enjoying the evening. Thanksgiving Day is the start of the holiday season that will last until January 6 (Epiphany), including such festivals as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Since there are so many events packed into this period -- dinners, social gatherings, religious ceremonies, even shopping -- I have decided to dedicate two fragrances just for those events. CHRIS COLLINS SWEET TABOO TOP NOTES: clary sage, cardamom, cinnamon MIDDLE NOTES: geranium, cacao, coffee BASE NOTES: benzoin siam, tonka bean, vanilla, musk A spicy gourmand, I wore this fragrance on Thanksgiving Day for our family dinner and evening movie. Sweet Taboo leans into the classic, comforting and celebratory aromas associated with the holidays, but with an upscale, slightly seductive twist. The cinnamon, cardamon and vanilla scream cozy holiday treats as associated with cookies, coffee shops, and spiced baked goods. Moreover, the warming, gourmand nature of Sweet Taboo is perfect for Thanksgiving gatherings, Christmas morning and general cold-weather comfort. The cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla create a sweet, spicy profile that feels familiar yet luxurious, while the coffee and cacao add a nice roasted, dark depth. It has a high-quality "expensive dessert" feel. Perfect for daytime, casual gatherings and general festive warmth (think Thanksgiving dinner, cozy weekends, or Christmas shopping). CHRIS COLLINS DANSE SAUVAGE TOP NOTES: cognac, plum, saffron MIDDLE NOTES: pepper, chili, rose BASE NOTES: cedarwood, vanilla, oud A dark and complex fragrance, I wore this scent at the first holiday party held two nights after Thanksgiving. Danse Sauvage has an intoxicating opening with an assertive blend of sweetness, warm spice and woods. The primary notes I discern are nutmeg, cedar, cognac and plum, with the cedar and cognac being the most prominent.

@Stephen Johnson I recommend starting with the discovery set, where you can get eight samples for $50.

@Jonathan Ventura You're welcome!
Tom Ford Ombré Leather
Sticking with the Tom Ford theme today. I’m a sucker for Cardamom (nothing new there) but the leather note in this is soo good, one of the best that I’ve personally smelled! Nothing crazy in the note profile but the quality is evident. Have a great day all!

@Sean Kavanaugh Body chemistry definitely is a factor. I agree; everything is not going to smell the same on everyone. Performance also can vary across different production batches, so I would check when your bottle came out.

I typically buy Boadicea The Victorious and Chris Collins, but I stepped out of my comfort zone recently and bought Ombre Leather. Even though leather is one of my favorite notes, I did not have a leather-forward scent. What I love about Ombre Leather is how modern it is for a leather fragrance. It's clean and smooth, like the black leather interior of a new car. The main reason I didn't have a leather-forward scent previously is that the leather scents I tried tended to smell like a loud biker in a cheap bar (I'm looking at you, Tom Ford Tuscan Leather) or a stuffy library study with dusty books (Do you hear me, Boadicea The Victorious Complex?). More importantly for me, Ombre Leather is a wearable leather-forward fragrance. I have worn it only twice, but in both cases I was far from weary of wearing it. It opens with a blast of realistic black leather, but the jasmine and cardamom quickly soften it. The floral touch makes it clean enough to wear with business casual or even formal looks.
Your favorite houses
My favorite are Versace, Dior, Calvin Klein, Tom Ford and Creed. Tom Ford and Creed are super expensive because I am on the budget so I go with the clones of Tom Ford and Creed. I want to hear your favorite house..

@Henry Clay The Forward is my favorite Mind Games fragrance. It's citrus mainly, but that salt and vanilla blend makes it truly a creamy and wonderful scent.

Boadicea The Victorious and Chris Collins make up most of my collection.
Boadicea the Victorius Joyous.
This is my opinion and not going to bother you with what Fragrantica’s web site has about this scent. While going to a luxury department store in Mexico City, my sons pulled me into the perfume department where niche fragrances are, right there is where I first saw this perfume house, but they also carried another brand and right there I bought my first niche perfume Amouage Interlude 53. I really liked Boadicea, so I left it for another time. Well, when I came back to that store, I found out they dropped the brand and did not have it anymore. Needless to say, I found a discount online and bought this one and it’s a very nice fragrance. It opens with a fresh kick of cardamom, spicy, slightly green, and energizing, reminding me of a vacation we had to this coffee plantation in Chiapas where they also had cardamom. Soon after, orange blossom adds a soft, warm sweetness, balancing the sharpness with a touch of brightness. As it dries down, the scent becomes deeper and more refined. The woody leather base gives it a smooth, rich character. It feels both modern and timeless, bold yet inviting. For someone who likes a fragrance with contrast, fresh but warm, strong but never overwhelming. Note: The first picture is mine, the rest were taken from different websites.

@Fernando Mendoza Very interesting, indeed. It would be one thing if BTV used differentiating names for different styles, which is what many designer houses do (for example, the Calvin Klein Eternity fragrances). But with Joyous, there are two distinctly different fragrances with the same name.

@Fernando Mendoza I have solved the mystery of the two Boadicea The Victorious fragrances that were named Joyous, based on information and research on this subject. Boadicea the Victorious is notorious for its massive catalog and tendency to release "collections" that sometimes overlap in naming before they are fully finalized for global markets. The bottle of Joyous that you have was part of a localized Italian line to commemorate the Mediterranean culture before being made available worldwide. The bottle of Joyous I have was part of the Spirit Collection, which included the fragrances Pure Narcotic and Back to Paradise. The crazy part is they both debuted in 2019—yours in the spring, mine in the fall. Boadicea realized that two vastly different scents with the exact same name were a customer service and marketing nightmare. The company reportedly pulled both to "re-evaluate" the naming structure but instead opted to move on. As for my scent, I never understood why Boadicea would give a dark, resinous saffron and oud scent the name "Joyous"; to me, it's a creative mismatch. The white floral version definitely wears that name more naturally.
Shower Fresh
In arena of scented bar soaps vs scented body wash, where does your preference land? Is it with natural soaps like Bearsville, Squatch, or Duke Cannon that claim not to dry the skin or is it with drug store brand body washes like Dove, Neutrogena, Old Spice , etc... I realize that many of you prefer unscented products so your spray on fragrance can be your scent of choice. Looking to hear from the guys that like to step out of the shower using soap or body wash as their first layer. Thanks guys!

I use only Ivory Original Gentle Bar Soap or Kirk's Fragrance Free Castile Soap.
