Steppin' Out with Carolina Herrera Mystery Tobacco
NOTE: Instead of a Scent Of The Day, I am introducing a fragrance I wore for going out on a date, attending a party, or simply enjoying the evening. As much as I love Chris Collins' boozy fragrances and Boadicea The Victorious' opulent scents, they lack a fragrance featuring one of my favorite notes -- tobacco. For my birthday, I decided to branch out from my CC/BTV collection and add a new fragrance from another house. So after conducting some research (including using sources such as ChatGPT and Android's Gemini) to find a fragrance that would enhance my existing collection and wearing some 2ml decant sample, I chose Carolina Herrera Mystery Tobacco. Released in 2016, Mystery Tobacco is part of the Confidential Collection private line that is largely sold in Europe. Mystery Tobacco has a ginger, fruity opening that dries into a spiced pipe tobacco lifted by some drier tobacco leaf vibes. What really stands out is the pipe tobacco note that smells like it came out of a cigar -- exactly the feel I want in a tobacco-forward fragrance. The combination of ginger, vetiver, tonak bean and osmanthus creates this woody, spicy and boozy scent. It's refined, a bit restrained (at least compared to Mancera's Red Tobacco) and very smooth. I think the patchouli note also lends to the appeal to me. I detect resinous, juicy, wet tobacco throughout the fragrance's wear, which is nice. For a tobacco-forward fragrance, Mystery Tobacco truly delivers. The bottle just arrived just in time for my birthday. I can't wait to wear this one on my birthday and add it to my winter fragrance rotation. And yes, I will get a backup bottle (something I thought I would never say about any cologne, but the Confidential collection is essentially a niche line). It also looks like Carolina Herrera has discontinued it, based on the CH website listings. NOTE: The notes breakdown chart is courtesy of Fragrantica. @Lon Chaneyfield Thank you! I feel that adding Mystery Tobacco is going to make my fall collection that much stronger. It will be a valuable addition to the oud, leather and gourmand fragrances I wear during that time of the year.
My ChatGPT driven scent profile…
Hey gents, Apologies in advance for the LONG message... Earlier this week someone asked me what my favorites notes were or what my profile was and it got me thinking...I felt like I am starting to establish my groove and understand my preferences and dislikes and so I took to ChatGPT to help me analyze some things and boy did it hit the nail on the head. I gave ChatGPT a list of about 20 fragrances that I've either bought bottles of or plan to buy bottles of. They included a couple of close flankers (each of the Sauvage and BdC lines as there are SLIGHT variations in notes but ultimately I like them and will own them all...save for Eau Forte...LOL) but it was a varied list. What I got back was a really interesting analysis that seems to hit the nail spot on. I thought this was a great exercise and really seemed to shed some light. Below is my analysis. My question to you all...have you figured out what YOU like most or have you considered doing a similar exercise? I was surprised at order though not necessarily surprised at what it came up with. Curious where you all are at? 1. Amber & Woody Ambroxan-Driven Base - Fragrances: Sauvage line, Bleu de Chanel (especially Parfum/EDP), Explorer, Givenchy Privee, Eros Flame, Azzaro MW Elixir - Notes in this family: Ambroxan, Amberwood, Woody Ambers, Cedarwood, Sandalwood - Why it matters: These give your favorite scents a masculine, polished, versatile base that works in day or night settings. Ambroxan in particular is the backbone of most modern masculine “blue” scents — clean, musky, radiant. 2. Sweet Spicy Warmth (Cardamom, Cinnamon, Tonka, Amber) - Fragrances: Most Wanted Elixir, Eros Flame, Gentleman Privee, Explorer Extreme, Eros EDT, Bleu Parfum - Common Notes: Tonka Bean, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Warm Amber, Vanilla - Why it matters: This cluster gives you that warm seductive punch you like in evening/date night scents without being overbearingly youthful. You favor spice that’s warm and smooth, not screechy.

UPDATE: I took my list to Google's AI feature, Gemini, for a cross-comparison. While Gemini was impressed with my lineup, it also suggested adding a clean scent in the spring (similar to what ChatGPT suggested with Boadicea the Victorious' Energizer) and a floral scent in the summer. Also, with the addition of Carolina Herrera's Mystery Tobacco, I had one season with seven fragrances. I wanted to create balance by having seven fragrances per week for all four seasons, which means eliminating the flex day concept. So I chose to add the following three fragrances: Chris Collins Citrus Grandis (spring) - Profile: Often described as a clean, bright, and slightly metallic cedar, tea, and yuzu blend. It has a sheer, modern quality that provides energy without the dense spice or resinous character of the current line-up. - Placement in rotation: This would be perfect for a Monday or Tuesday in the spring or summer when I need something supremely professional, non-fatiguing, and less opulent than a Sapphire. It fills the need for a crisp, airy daily scent. Chris Collins Long Kiss Goodnight (summer) - Profile: The centifolia rose and pink peony provide the deep, romantic floral profile I was missing, while remaining distinct from the lighter Vide Cor Meum. - Placement in rotation: The combination of passion fruit and coffee beans is unique, tropical, and complex — far from a standard white floral. It links to the fruity notes I love in Glorious, and the coffee note introduces a sensual, date-night richness. Boadicea The Victorious Ardent (fall) - Profile: My collection previously lacked a prominent, rich rose scent. It provides a gorgeous, complex, dense, and slightly sweet-to-spicy profile of rose, oud and honey, which is a signature of high-end niche perfumery for the cooler months. - Placement in rotation: The presence of saffron, coriander, beeswax, and patchouli ensures it fits the warm, textural feel of autumn. The beeswax in particular provides a honeyed warmth that is perfect for a cool evening.

Fall Rotation
As we transition from our summer fragrances to fall, it would be interesting to see what your fall rotation looks like. You could either post a picture, or list out your fall fragrances. Here is a photo of my fall rotation.

Tested from a sample I received, so of course I used the full sample in one go. This opens with the bergamot dominating the opening to give a bright, fresh spark. The spices and juniper berry tones down the brightness so that there is nothing sharp about the opening. The first hour of wear is commanded by the top notes as it progressively gets sweeter and smoother during the dry down. After the initial hour, I can still detect the bergamot but the blend of cashmere wood and floral is super smooth. The scent now shows up as intimate but is not yet a skin scent. The projection has definitely been curtailed but the complexity grows. The bottom notes blend into well harmonized accords. The bergamot is still there but has lost the battle for dominance. Instead we are left with a soft, smooth, warm aroma with just a bit of sweetness. Overall, it doesn't shine as well as I would have wanted but I do enjoy every phase. The projection is moderate and it became a skin scent after about two hours. However, as a skin scent it does last quite a while, in total I got about 6 hours. In general this is an intimate wear although it does open with a sharp bright burst of citrus and eventually dries down to warm, smooth slightly sweet and woody accords. I get less of the spice than I had anticipated.

I had no problems with Knight of Love. It's pretty much an intimate, office-friendly scent that lasts about seven hours on my skin. It's not my particular style of fragrance (I'm not much of a fan of green scents), which is why I chose Enthrone if I had to be in a situation that required that type of fragrance.

@Andrew G. It also is one of the few BTV fragrances that doesn't sell for much lower, even on discounter sites. The lowest price I've seen for it is for around $500.
