The visceral fat piece is worth understanding on its own. Visceral tissue carries a higher density of glucocorticoid receptors than subcutaneous fat, so chronic elevation shifts fat toward the abdomen even in people maintaining or losing total weight. That is the mechanism behind someone lean everywhere except the midsection despite consistent effort and a reasonable diet.
