WOTD and WOTM
Today's WOTD is also June's WOTM. The Glycine Combat Sub edged out the Multifort by 4 wears. I went into June with a three watch only challenge with one exception scheduled to wear the tank to a wedding. Life threw a curveball with the sudden passing of my Dad and I found myself just defaulting to the Mido and Combat Sub depending upon the needs of the day. Funnily with my brother coming into town for longer than expected, he ended up wearing the Monterey more than I did. The coolest thing was to watch both the Mido and the Combat Sub improve on the timegrapher with more consistent use. The Mido ended the month at +1s/d and the Combat Sub at -1s/d. These little challenges keep showing me that maybe I'm not so much a collector as a watch wearer and just a general horology enthusiast. I enjoy the daily routine and rhythm of wearing the same couple of watches day in and day out far more than chasing the next purchase. A strap change oftentimes brings me more joy than a new watch. I keep leaning more and more towards a less is more approach. With my Dad's passing I'm considering purchasing a watch to mark the time and as a remembrance. My dad was an incredibly talented craftsman/carpenter, there wasn't anything he couldn't fix or figure out. . He was simple, dependable, so incredibly hard working, humble, respectable, never flashy or outspoken, all his tools were marked with his initials from jobsites, meticulously accounted and cared for. I'm thinking about a Sinn 656 and getting those initials in his writing laser engraved on the caseback, something to keep on me daily as a constant reminder of who I am and my heritage. Something that could be passed on to my son when my own time comes.
