Day #9 of 30-Day Challenge
Throwback Thursday with my Dad's Timex from the 70's which I call "Lazarus".
We found it last fall while moving Mom into an independent living facility.
The twist-o/flex/stretch bracelet was broken and the watch needed some love.
Taking a referral from the Strap Professor to add a NATO, then replacing the battery, it fired right up.
It's got a nice scar on its face (wish I knew that story). The day/date isn't yet cooperating.
My Dad was Director of QC for an Iron Foundry which made castings for the Big Three U.S. automakers from 1960-1995. From when I was in high school til his retirement, I can't remember him wearing another watch. "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking" wasn't just a slogan for him.
He passed away in 2012 from mesothelioma which he apparently contracted from exposure to asbestos while working for GM in the late 1940s-early 1950s when he had the job of "painting" the inside of their boiler stacks with asbestos (wearing t-shirts & jeans). They weren't provided any hasmet gear even though the medical dangers were known by companies prior to 1940 apparently.
All 4 of his painting buddies have also passed away from the same disease.
It's nice to have "Lazarus" with me at work knowing I may have a QC guy looking over my shoulder checking my work.
Have a terrific Thursday.
