#11: Carbs are Not Essential
"You Need Carbs to Survive" False. Your body requires protein. Your body requires fat. Your body does NOT require carbohydrates. Here's what your body actually needs: Protein - To build and repair tissue, make hormones, create enzymes, support immunity. Non-negotiable. Fat - To absorb vitamins, support brain function, regulate hormones, build cell membranes. Non-negotiable. Carbohydrates - Your body can make glucose from protein and fat if needed. Not essential. But wait—carbs aren't the enemy. 👉 The problem is WHICH carbs we're eating. Starchy carbs (bread, pasta, rice, crackers, processed foods): - Spike blood sugar fast - Create energy crashes - Drive inflammation - Hold more water (bloating and higher BP) - Leave you hungry again in 2 hours Low-glycemic carbs (vegetables, berries, some fruit): - Provide fiber your gut needs - Contain vitamins and minerals - Don't spike blood sugar - Keep you satisfied for hours - Support weight loss The game-changer is to build your plate around: ✅ Protein (chicken, fish, beef, eggs) ✅ Healthy fat (olive oil, avocado, nuts, butter) ✅ Fiber-rich, low-glycemic vegetables & fruits This combination gives your body everything it needs—without the starchy carbs. Result: 💚 More satiated (actually full, not just eating) 💚 Zero cravings (stable blood sugar) 💚 Stable energy (no 2pm crash) 💚 Easier weight loss (no insulin spikes) 💚 Better digestion 💚 Clearer thinking The truth: You don't need bread, pasta, or rice to be healthy. You need whole foods that nourish your body. Vegetables and fruits provide all the carbohydrates your body actually needs. Everything else is just extra blood sugar spikes disguised as "fuel." #10: Walking Is the Oldest and Best Form of Exercise
Let's talk movement today! You don't need a gym membership to be serious about your health. You don't need expensive equipment. You don't need to kill yourself on a treadmill. 👉 You need to walk. Here's the truth: Humans walked for 200,000+ years before gyms existed. And we thrived. Walking: ✅ Reduces inflammation ✅ Stabilizes blood sugar ✅ Improves digestion ✅ Lowers cortisol (stress) ✅ Supports weight loss ✅ Strengthens bones ✅ Improves mood and mental clarity ✅ Doesn't require recovery time But somewhere along the way, we decided walking wasn't "enough." We were told we need to run, lift heavy, CRUSH it at the gym to count as "serious exercisers." So people who hate the gym quit exercising altogether. And people who do go are often injured or burned out. The myth: You need intense exercise to be healthy. The truth: Consistent, sustainable movement beats occasional intensity every single time. A 20-minute walk every day beats a grueling workout twice a week that leaves you too sore to move. Here's what we know from Functional Nutrition: Your body doesn't need to be punished into health. It needs to be supported into it. That means whole foods. That means sleep. That means movement that feels GOOD. Walking is that movement. Your challenge: Walk at least 20 minutes this week (more if you can). No phone. No pressure. Just movement. Notice how you feel. Notice how your body responds. That's the exercise your body is actually asking for. Drop a comment: What's your favorite place to walk? Let's inspire each other. 💚

#9: Eggs Were Villainized for 40 Years on Very Thin Evidence
Inspired by my butternut squash egg dish post today... For decades, we were told eggs were bad. Cholesterol! Heart disease! Limit yourself to one a week! Turns out? That was based on pretty shaky science. Here's what actually happened: In the 1960s, one researcher did some studies suggesting high cholesterol caused heart disease. Media ran with it. Food companies profited (selling low-fat alternatives). And eggs got blamed. But when you look at the actual research? Eating eggs doesn't raise blood cholesterol for most people. And here's the kicker: Dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol are not the same thing. Your liver makes cholesterol based on what you EAT—especially processed foods and refined carbs. Not from eggs. What we know NOW: Eggs are one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. ✅ Complete protein (all amino acids) ✅ Choline (brain health) ✅ Lutein & zeaxanthin (eye health) ✅ Selenium (immunity) ✅ B vitamins ✅ Healthy fats ✅ Natural antioxidants The yolk has MORE nutrients than the white. Eat the whole egg. 🍳 Here's the real culprit: Not eggs. Processed foods. Refined carbs. Seed oils. Sugar. THOSE are what drive inflammation and heart disease. Not eggs. In Functional Nutrition, we say: Whole foods were never the problem. Processed foods were. Eggs are one of the cheapest, most accessible, most nutritious whole foods you can eat. So let's stop villainizing them. Drop a comment: How do you like your eggs? 💚

#8 - Moderation is marketing. It was invented so nothing comes off the list.
The truth many don't want to hear: **Moderation is marketing. It was invented so nothing comes off the list.** It sounds so reasonable, doesn't it? "Everything in moderation." It's the phrase that lets every food stay on the table, forever, no matter what it's doing to your body. It's not really a nutrition principle — it's a permission slip. And it works, because it lets people keep eating what they're not ready to give up while feeling like they're still "doing it right." And marketing leans into this idea and feeds it, literally! Here's what moderation actually looks like for most people: - "I only eat bread twice a week." - "Sundays are my cheat day when I can eat whatever I want, but I eat on plan other days." - "I just have a little sugar in my coffee each day" - "It's just one slice of pizza on Fridays." Each one sounds harmless on its own. But look at what's actually happening in your body every time this pattern repeats. Every "moderate" hit of sugar or refined carbs sends your blood sugar up, spikes insulin, and triggers water retention as your body works to process it. Then it crashes, and you're hungry and craving again. 🥴 Twice a week, every Sunday, every Friday — you never fully get out of that cycle. You're constantly resetting the clock instead of ever leaving it behind. This is also why cravings never fully go away for so many people. Every "just this once" feeds the craving cycle and keeps it alive. 👉 It's not willpower. It's biology repeating a loop it never gets to exit. And if we're being honest (the only we know how to be 😁) — moderating inflammatory foods doesn't work long-term. A little inflammation "in moderation" is still inflammation 🔥, still showing up in your joints, your gut, your skin, your weight, your energy, week after week. So when we talk about moderation, we mean something very different: A birthday. A holiday. A genuinely special occasion — not a recurring Tuesday you've rebranded as a rule. Reply and tell me — what's your "moderation" habit that you know, deep down, is really a daily or weekly pattern you cannot seem to break?

#7 - Self-fulfilling myth - "I just can't lose weight."
This is never true. What's actually true is that you haven't found the approach that works for your body yet — and that's not your fault. Most weight loss programs aren't built for you. They're built for the average person, applied to everyone, regardless of how different our bodies actually are. They don't look at your bloodwork. They don't ask about your thyroid, your insulin resistance, your hormones, your stress load, or your sleep. They hand you a generic calorie target and call it a plan. And then there's this: many programs will tell you it's fine to "moderate" processed food — a little here, a little there, as long as it fits within your calories. We'd push back on that hard. Processed food isn't just empty calories. It's often the very thing driving the blood sugar swings, inflammation, and cravings that are keeping you stuck in the first place. "Everything in moderation" sounds reasonable — until you realize moderation of the wrong things can still keep you spinning your wheels for years. There's more, too — programs that ignore how medications interact with weight, that don't account for past dieting history wrecking your metabolism, that treat a 25-year-old and a 55-year-old woman in perimenopause the exact same way. You are not broken. You haven't failed. You've likely just never had anyone look at the whole picture — your labs, your history, your actual biology — before handing you a plan. That's the difference. That's the work. Comment and tell me — has a program ever told you "everything in moderation" was fine, when deep down you knew it wasn't working for you? OR, are you one of those people who believed you truly could not lose weight, and then you found Lifestyle Evolution and your perspective changed? We would love to hear from you!!
