Where These Mycotoxins Are Found
Trichothecenes (mold toxins from Fusarium species)
Common sources-
- Contaminated grains (wheat, barley, corn)
- Moldy food products
- Water damaged homes (drywall, wood)
- Improperly stored cereals
These are often inhaled or ingested in damp environments, not just food.
Ochratoxin (produced by Aspergillus & Penicillium)
Common sources-
- Coffee beans
- Stored grains
- Wine & grapes
- Dried fruits
- Moldy indoor environments
Very common in poorly stored foods and linked to kidney stress.
Fumonisins (from Fusarium verticillioides)
Common sources-
- Corn and corn-based products:
- Animal feed
Highly relevant if you're eating processed corn- heavy diets.
Cyanotoxins & Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs)
Microcystins, Cylindrospermopsin, BMAA
These are toxins produced by cyanobacteria (often called blue-green algae).
Where they are found-
- Freshwater lakes
- Ponds
- Rivers
- Reservoirs
- Occasionally coastal areas
Triggered by-
- Warm temperatures
- Nutrient pollution (fertilizer runoff)
- Stagnant water
