My closest friendβs son is currently undertaking a year long challenge to raise money for a mental health charity, by raising awareness about the link between mental health and exercise. Heβs 22, the same age as my eldest daughter, and is in his final year studying a sports science degree.
Heβs running 5k every day for a year and documenting his progress every day on Instagram and TikTok. He reflects on how regular exercise has a massive impact on the way he views the world and delves into the science behind it at times. He also has a βQuote of the Dayβ, many of which have resonated with so many people. Sadly, most of his followers are young men who are struggling with their mental health but canβt open up to anyone for fear of not looking βmasculineβ.
I wanted to share it with this community because we all know how the βgym-glowβ makes us feel. The endorphins released are addictive and certainly give me a clearer picture of life βproblemsβ. Regular exercise not only makes our bodies healthy, but it helps us keep a healthy mind too.
It also made me realise that most of us who are active in this community are female, so this is just a check-in with all you wonderful men out there who might not be engaging in conversations for fear of not looking βmasculineβ. Or who joined this community because you want to start your health journey but donβt know where to start. Us women can talk A LOT but we are here to support each and every one of you. No question is too silly, no problem is ever ridiculed. You guys are AWESOME π€©
