Two ways to fill a free Skool community. Only one of them compounds.
So, there are two ways to fill a free Skool community. One feels fast. The other feels slow. The crazy thing is, they produce very different results.
Now, the fast way is social posts, paid ads, or a well-timed viral moment. You get a burst of signups. Some engage for a few days. Then the feed moves on, and so do they.
The community fills up with people who joined on impulse and never came back. This is sometimes called the ghost member problem. It is not a retention problem. It is an acquisition problem dressed up as one.
The slow way is YouTube. Specifically, long-form videos are built around questions people are already searching for. Someone types a problem into YouTube at 11 pm. Your video comes up.
They watch twelve minutes of it. They join your community from the description of your video. That person arrived with a defined problem, spent real time with you before they joined, and made a conscious decision rather than an impulsive one. Everything that happens after that is different.
The mechanism is simple. Search-intent traffic and feed-scroll traffic are not the same psychology. One is a person looking for something. The other is a person being shown something. The first type tends to stay, participate, and eventually pay. The second type tends to look around once and go quiet.
There is a second advantage that rarely gets mentioned. A social post has a lifespan of about 48 hours.
A YouTube video built around a specific search term can drive new members into your community for years. The compounding effect is real. Members joining your community from a video you recorded in 2022 are not a surprise. They are the system working as designed.
If you're building a Skool community and wondering why your member count grows, but your engagement doesn't, the question worth asking is where your members are coming from.
That's what The Content Revenue Lab is built around.
