They have a “what do I want people to do?” problem.

Before posting, ask:

What action do I want after someone reads this?

Different questions create different kinds of participation:

🔵 Yes / No — lowest friction; great for lurkers

🔵 Pick A or B — quick and easy participation

🔵 Quick Comment — one-line opinions or answers

🔵 Share a Result — perfect for wins and accountability

🔵 Tag Someone — creates member-to-member connections

🔵 Ask Me Anything — surfaces what members actually need

🔵 Share a Story — deeper conversation and relationships

Why is this important?

Don’t ask for a paragraph when a one-click answer will do.

Think of engagement as a ladder and your members each on a different rung:

Yes/No → A/B → Comment → Result → Conversation → Story

This gets them moving up the ladder naturally so you eventually get more engagement in your group. I liked this idea enough that I just built it into the Post Builder/Grader in Skool Growth Lab. You can now choose the type of engagement you want, and the growth engine helps build or evaluate the post around that behavior automatically for you.

But you can use the idea without any tool:

Before publishing your next post, finish this sentence:

👉 “After reading this, I want my members to ______.”

If you don't know the answer, they probably won't either.
