How to tell if LinkedIn is actually working
If you’re showing up on LinkedIn but not sure whether it’s actually leading anywhere, this is a simple 20-minute check-in you can use.
I’m sharing a visual below that walks through a quick LinkedIn check-in process to help you measure progress more strategically.
The 3 steps are:
1. Capture your baselineScreenshot your LinkedIn analytics: profile views, search appearances, and post impressions. You cannot measure movement if you do not know where you started.
2. Check your signalsLook beyond the headline numbers. Comment replies, profile views after posting, and connection requests are often stronger momentum signals than likes alone.
3. Ask yourself two questionsWhat felt easy this week? What did I avoid?Because visibility is not just about output. It is also about what you can sustain.
Here’s what to notice
Numbers need context
50 profile views means very little on its own. 50 when you started at 10 tells a very different story.
Patterns matter more than perfection
The goal is not a random viral moment. It is noticing what works when repeated.
Conversations matter more than vanity metrics
A post that starts 3 useful conversations can be more valuable than one with higher impressions and no movement.
If you want to go deeper, there are two ways to do that inside The LinkedIn Strategy Lab:
