🧶 Why Did My Project Turn Out the Wrong Size? 🤔
🧶 You carefully follow the pattern, use what seems like the same weight yarn... and your finished project turns out a completely different size. What happened? Many people assume that if two yarns are both labelled the same weight, they'll produce the same result. Unfortunately, that's not always true. Different fibres, construction, and gauge can all affect the finished size of your project, even when the yarns have the same weight category. To help explain why this happens, I recorded a video that walks you through: 🧶 What yarn gauge really means 🧶 Why two "same weight" yarns can knit up very differently 🧶 How to substitute yarn more successfully 🧶 How to avoid projects turning out too big or too small 🎥 Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/IyE27PHDmGY Understanding gauge is one of the biggest steps you can take toward becoming a more confident circular machine knitter. Once you understand it, choosing substitute yarns becomes much less of a guessing game and you'll have far more success with your projects. 💛 Have you ever had a project turn out bigger or smaller than you expected? Tell us what happened in the comments!
Hat
My next hat. I used another variegated yarn from my stash. The color is called Macaw. I really like how this one worked up. I also added a pom pom.

What the heck happened?
When finishing off the Christmas Crackers, I noticed the back stripes were not aligned. I was positive I remembered the instructions from the Beginners’ class on Changing Yarn, so after the fact, I watched it again. And yes, I followed those instructions. So what the heck happened? One thing I did learn though, making something with mini stripes just moved to the bottom of my to do list.
