It’s a warm‑vanilla floral that feels like sunlight on skin – never cloying, always polished. It opens crisp and inviting: Pink Pepper Essence, Watery Apple Accord – bright, juicy, with that soft spicy lift that wakes things up without biting. Right into the heart: Ylang‑Ylang, Jasmine Absolute, Madagascan Vanilla Absolute – the florals are golden and creamy, not heavy or heady; that vanilla is soft, crystalline sweetness, not sticky syrup. It settles beautifully into Sandalwood, Benzoin Resinoid, Amyris, Patchouli, Labdanum – smooth, resinous warmth, with just enough earth and wood to anchor it perfectly so it never feels like a plain dessert scent . Performance is solid and refined:6 hours on skin, gentle well‑mannered projection early on, then a lovely creamy trail that sits close but leaves a lasting impression. Brilliant in warmer weather – it never clogs or turns heavy – and works perfectly for office, smart‑casual, dates or relaxed evenings. Hey guys, I really appreciate you for hanging with me during the Joe Average Fragrance Library series! It's crazy how all these bottles are coming together and realizing, damn, I really have a ton of these! Many of you commented on how it would be cool to get a backstory to some of the more memorable fragrances in my collection! I think this is great idea and figured I can share my experiences as I come across those that have memories attached. So, I'll start up this little mini series while I try and fill my shelves (and not die in an avalanche of bottles 😂) 4711 - The OG 4711 Original Eau de Cologne is one of those fragrances where you’re not just smelling perfume, you’re smelling a little piece of fragrance history. Its story dates to 1792, when Köln, (Germany) merchant Wilhelm Mülhens began producing an aromatic “Aqua Mirabilis,” or “miracle water,” from his shop in the city’s Glockengasse (Clocktower Plaza). During the French occupation, the building was assigned the house number 4711, which eventually became the product’s famous name and was registered as a trademark in 1875. Originally promoted for its refreshing, almost medicinal qualities, 4711 evolved into the classic bright citrus-and-aromatic Eau de Cologne we know today and more than two centuries later, that unmistakable turquoise-and-gold bottle is still going strong!! What makes this one memorable for me is that it was the first fragrance I featured in my budding social media endeavours! I shot a quick "reel" and with my son's help, I posted my first ever fragrance short. It's rough and maybe a little cringe, but I had to start somewhere!
