Fresh start October Niche Day 7 Educational (Do Niche / Indie maintain Value}?
many niche and indie fragrances can have significant resale value, especially when they are limited-edition, discontinued, or highly sought after. Unlike mass-produced designer fragrances, which are widely available, the exclusivity of niche and indie products creates a secondary market where certain scents become valuable collectors' items. Factors that increase resale value - Discontinuation or retirement: When a brand stops producing a specific scent, the limited remaining stock can become very valuable to collectors. This is especially true for popular formulas that can't be easily found elsewhere. - Small-batch production: Many indie perfumers handcraft their scents in small, limited quantities. Once a batch sells out, it may be unavailable for a long time or forever, driving up the resale price. - High-quality or rare ingredients: Niche and indie houses often use expensive, rare, or natural ingredients. Scents built around these hard-to-source materials can fetch a higher price on the resale market due to their unique quality and composition. - Brand reputation and artistry: Some independent brands build a devoted following through their unique approach to perfumery. The brand's reputation for creativity and using high-quality ingredients can increase the value of its retired or exclusive fragrances. - Unique packaging: Bespoke or distinctive bottles and packaging can be a selling point. If the artistic presentation is part of the brand's identity, the full, original packaging can add to the resale price. - Social media influence: A fragrance can gain viral popularity on social media, especially on platforms like TikTok Instagram,Facebook,Ebay and Mercari. This hype can create a sudden, high demand for a scent, leading to elevated resale prices.Ā  How to maximize resale value If you are looking to sell fragrances on the secondary market, keep these best practices in mind: - Keep the original packaging: Retain the box and any inserts. Collectors often value the complete, original packaging. - Store scents properly: Store your perfumes in a cool, dark place away from heat and direct sunlight to preserve their scent integrity. Poor storage can degrade the fragrance and reduce its value. - Research market demand: Use online marketplaces like eBay and Mercari, as well as fragrance forums on Reddit (like r/fragrance), to gauge how much similar fragrances are selling for. - Use platforms that reach enthusiasts: Focus on selling on dedicated marketplaces or forums with a community of fragrance lovers. This ensures you are reaching an audience that understands and appreciates niche and indie scents.Ā  - Exclusivity and Uniqueness

Steppin' Out with Carolina Herrera Mystery Tobacco
NOTE: Instead of a Scent Of The Day, I am introducing a fragrance I wore for going out on a date, attending a party, or simply enjoying the evening. As much as I love Chris Collins' boozy fragrances and Boadicea The Victorious' opulent scents, they lack a fragrance featuring one of my favorite notes—tobacco. For my birthday, I decided to branch out from my CC/BTV ecosystem and add a new fragrance from another house. After conducting some research (including using ChatGPT and Android's Gemini) to find a fragrance that would enhance my existing collection and wearing some 2ml decant samples, I chose Carolina Herrera Mystery Tobacco. Released in 2016, Mystery Tobacco is part of the Confidential Collection private line that is largely sold in Europe. Mystery Tobacco has a ginger, fruity opening that dries into a spiced pipe tobacco lifted by some drier tobacco leaf vibes. What really stands out is the pipe tobacco note that smells like it came out of a cigar -- exactly the feel I want in a tobacco-forward fragrance. The combination of tobacco, ginger, vetiver, tonka bean and osmanthus creates this woody, spicy and boozy scent. It's refined, a bit restrained (at least compared to Mancera's Red Tobacco) and very smooth. I think the patchouli note also lends to the appeal. The bottle arrived just in time for my birthday, so I'm excited to wear this one and add it to my winter fragrance rotation. And yes, I will get a backup bottle (something I thought I would never say about any cologne, but the Confidential collection is essentially a niche line). It also looks like Carolina Herrera has discontinued it, based on the CH website listings. NOTE: The notes breakdown chart is courtesy of Fragrantica. SOTD – Black Influence by SÜS-SKƏND - Fresh Start October
Good Morning Brotherhood! Today I come to you with a ā€œFresh Start Octoberā€ fragrance, Black Influence by SÜS-SKƏND. This is a niche fragrance introduced to me by my local niche dealer, D’or Prestige (https://dorprestige.com/). After doing a bit of research on the brand, I learned that Black Influence was crafted in Grasse, France, and launched in 2016. According to the brand’s website (https://www.harsalong.be/sus-skind-black-influence), ā€œPerfume is much more than a combination of molecules and components. It expresses a feeling, a desire that is interpreted by the perfumer to bring to life memories of past emotions or emotions one would like to experience.ā€ The fragrance comes only in a 30ml bottle, presented in an elegant, minimalist design with a sticker logo that gives off true small-business charm. I’d classify this as Indie Niche, since it seems to be sold exclusively through the perfumer and select niche retailers like D’or Prestige but I hate to throw around the word Indie out of respect to true Indie perfumers. Maybe @Lon Chaneyfield can weigh in here to help me out a little to see if the term ā€œIndieā€ fits this house? On first spray, I’m immediately greeted by white florals that are warm and inviting, drawing me in for more. There’s a fleeting touch of animalic funk in the opening, but it quickly fades as the fragrance settles. The dry down brings a soft, white powdery feel, reminiscent of old-school baby powder. Though iris isn’t listed in the official notes, I definitely pick up an iris-like vibe likely from the tonka bean and vanilla. It’s vanillic, slightly cola like, but not gourmand. As it continues to evolve, woody nuances emerge, giving the powdery notes a smooth wooden base to rest on. To put it in perspective, I’d compare this to Dior Homme 2020, but softer, creamier, and with a touch more wood in the base. Performance is excellent and not ā€œbeast modeā€ by any means, but very respectable. Projection sits about an arm’s length with 8 sprays, so I’d call it moderate. However, the longevity is outstanding. You can tell the ingredients are high quality as it stays rich and creamy for 8+ hours.
