Slay of the day: Y Iced Cologne by Yves Saint Laurent
I never really took a shine to the Y line, tried one that I remember being far to lavender for my liking. But I got some sames of the latest flanker. Gave some to my boys whom I think liked it. So I said I might as well try it. Iced Cologne is the latest addition to the Y lineup. Said to be an edt Intense alternative to to the heavier Elixir & EDP versions, it claim is to capture the sensation of liquid ice. Released in January this year, from master perfumer, Dominique Ropion, that's the guy behind the original Y DNA and my favourite La Nuit de l'Homme. It’s sharper, crispier, and more minimalist than the standard Y EDP. The fragrance is an Aromatic Fougère that prioritizes cooling sensations over the usual fruity sweetness found in the Y line. Up top they got Fresh Ice Mint, Arctical™ with an immediate, sharp chill. Arctical™ is a proprietary IFF molecule designed to mimic the smell of frozen air. At the core Ourika Living Mint & Blue Sage which gives a rather good herbal, botanical freshness. The Ourika mint is said to be sourced from YSL's community gardens in Morocco, giving it a natural, crisp green edge. At the base, it's a no brainer with Ambroxan & Indonesian Patchouli. The signature blue dry down. It’s clean, slightly woody, and provides the "beast mode" longevity to the fresh profile. YSL markets this with a 12-hour icy intensity., which I'm calling BS. This is a 6-7hr scent at best, which ain't so bad for a freshie edt. Projection is not too bad for the first 2hrs, before it settles into a consistent, clean bubble.Unlike many iced scents thatl. ose their cooling sensation after 10 minutes, the mentholated/Arctical molecule here lingers well into the mid-notes. In summer this could be a pleasant reach for the gym or office. But at €115 for 100mls it's a bit over priced. Considering both Hawas Ice & Montblanc Legend Blue are viable alternatives at a fraction of the price. If you can get it at the right price, this could be a nice summer addition, but right now, I'd pass.
