SOTD: Ginger + Mist – Michael Malul
Went with Ginger + Mist today since it was going to be a warm day and this line from Michael Malul really fits that easy, casual vibe. First spray: ~12:14 p.m. Opening (first 40–45 minutes): Right away, this opens bright and refreshing, driven by ginger and citrus. I’m getting the zing from the ginger and the sharpness from the lemon and bergamot. It almost smells like a ginger tonic or ginger soda, but without any boozy edge. The profile feels clean, fresh, and uplifting. Still very much in the top notes at this stage. I’m not getting much herbal bite from the coriander yet, but there’s a faint green tint underneath that reminds me a bit of coriander or cilantro if I really think about it. ~2 hours in (around 2:27 p.m.): At this point, it’s clear this isn’t a projection monster. The scent sits closer to the skin, about 6 inches or so, which feels intentional for this line. The ginger pop has mostly faded, but it’s still clean and pleasant. Coriander stays quietly in the background, and it starts transitioning into the dry woody notes. No sweetness from nutmeg for me, and no funk from the akigala wood. Very smooth, very restrained. Drydown (around 4 hours in): Fully in the dry woody base now. This is a skin scent at this point. Clean woods, soft musk, and a very subtle finish. Performance isn’t the strong point here, but the scent profile itself is good. Overall: Ginger + Mist fits a specific role in my collection. It’s a great morning or warm-weather scent, something easy to throw on and then reapply later in the day if needed. It’s subtle, clean, and inoffensive, which seems to be a consistent theme with this Michael Malul line. Not a beast mode fragrance by any means, but it definitely has a place for casual wear and warmer days

SOTD: Dylan Blue by Versace 16/01/2026
This is actually by youngest son Dylan's bottle,he got a decant from me a while ago and has been wanting it for his birthday. So we got him his first Versace yesterday. It's been a staple in my collection ever since I started my collection. Versace Dylan Blue is often known as the Swiss Army Knife of the fragrance world. Launched in 2016 and created by Alberto Morillas. It was Versace’s answer to the blue fragrance trend a genre defined by clean, shower-gel vibes that are versatile and mass appealing. Dare I say this is perhaps the best of not one of the best Blue fragrances on the market. Ok some might say Dior Sauvage which I love or indeed Chanels BDC, but this was my first blue and will probably always be the top of the list for me. DB is a fresh, clean, masculine scent with an underlying depth & a touch of spice. It's got that shower gel vibe to it thanks to the ambroxan. It opens with a punchy blast of citrus Grapefruit and Calabrian Bergamot mixed with a unique Fig Leaf note. The fig leaf gives it a slightly green, crushed-leaf bitterness that prevents it from being just another citrus scent. The heart is where the "Blue" magic happens. Ambroxan takes center stage, providing a metallic, clean, and salty vibe. It is joined by Black Pepper for spice and Papyrus for a dry, woody texture. The base is where the scent becomes smoother and darker. Incense adds a smoky touch, while Tonka Bean and Saffron provide a subtle, creamy sweetness. It ends as a clean, masculine skin scent. For an Eau de Toilette Dylan Blue is a powerhouse. This is an easy 7 to 8 hrs on skin with strong projection for the first 2 to 3. It is noticeable without being suffocating, though you should be careful with sprays. 3–4 sprays is usually the sweet spot. Arguably the most versatile fragrance in the Versace lineup. It’s fresh enough for summer heat but has enough "weight" (incense and tonka) to cut through the winter cold. It works for the gym, the office, a first date, or a formal wedding. It leans youthful because of its energetic "shower gel" vibe, but it’s polished enough for older men as a casual daily driver. A must have in any collection and my favourite blue fragrance.
