Saturday Scent of the Day — Floris Wilde 😎
A beautiful warm Saturday here on Long Island today, so I reached for something that feels fresh enough for an 80-degree afternoon but still has a little character behind it — Wilde by Floris London. I’ve developed a real appreciation for Floris. There is something about the house that feels very traditionally British to me — understated, polished and never trying too hard to announce itself. Wilde is a particularly interesting one. Created as a tribute to Oscar Wilde, the fragrance opens with bergamot, citrus blossom and a touch of marine freshness. But pretty quickly the personality begins to show itself with ginger, green carnation and white jasmine, eventually settling into sandalwood, olibanum and benzoin. What I enjoy about it is the balance. It’s bright and fresh enough for a warm summer Saturday like today, but there is a spicy, slightly warm and woody quality underneath it that keeps it from becoming simply another citrus fragrance. And perhaps appropriately for something bearing Oscar Wilde’s name, it has a little individuality to it. 😎 It isn’t loud. It isn’t trying to dominate the room. But there is enough going on that I keep catching little changes throughout the day — citrus, spice, florals and eventually that warmer woody base. That has become one of the things I enjoy most about this hobby. Sometimes the fragrance I choose in the morning becomes another small part of how I experience the day. Today it’s Floris Wilde. Fresh, refined, a little unconventional…and very easy to enjoy on a beautiful Saturday. 🌞
Layton PDM First Impressions
I wore this one yesterday after a sample was included with my recent order and I was pleasantly surprised. Given the note breakdown and hype that this one gets in my mind. I expected a very sort of sweet and juicy fragrance given the apple note and how that's used in other perfumery that I've tried. Instead, I found it drier and less syrupy sweet and this was actually quite pleasant in that. I don't know why and I'm probably just associating here. Had a bit of Boss bottled absolute/ Elixir vibe in the dryness and the sort of spicy something? We've had quite a bit of intense wildfire smoke in my area, so I really want to be careful because the sniffer has been overwhelmed a lot lately. If it's giving me associations with two of my favorite fragrances I'm expecting that likely there'll be a third full presentation bottle of PDM in my collection to join with Haltane and Perseus. However, I'm going to slay this sample first over a few more wears to be sure just like I did with the other two because I find with PDM fragrances you have to be really sure about as they really announce themselves off my skin and I don't really go nose blind to them at all throughout the wear. So they aren't fragrances so far in my small experience that you can kind of 'break in over time ' if that makes sense? This was a pleasant surprise! I kind of get a sense of why this one is considered. Such a pivotal and influential fragrance. I think I have a dupe/inspired by somewhere in my collection and I'm going to have to try them side by side as well.
