SOTD: Ginger + Mist – Michael Malul
Went with Ginger + Mist today since it was going to be a warm day and this line from Michael Malul really fits that easy, casual vibe. First spray: ~12:14 p.m. Opening (first 40–45 minutes): Right away, this opens bright and refreshing, driven by ginger and citrus. I’m getting the zing from the ginger and the sharpness from the lemon and bergamot. It almost smells like a ginger tonic or ginger soda, but without any boozy edge. The profile feels clean, fresh, and uplifting. Still very much in the top notes at this stage. I’m not getting much herbal bite from the coriander yet, but there’s a faint green tint underneath that reminds me a bit of coriander or cilantro if I really think about it. ~2 hours in (around 2:27 p.m.): At this point, it’s clear this isn’t a projection monster. The scent sits closer to the skin, about 6 inches or so, which feels intentional for this line. The ginger pop has mostly faded, but it’s still clean and pleasant. Coriander stays quietly in the background, and it starts transitioning into the dry woody notes. No sweetness from nutmeg for me, and no funk from the akigala wood. Very smooth, very restrained. Drydown (around 4 hours in): Fully in the dry woody base now. This is a skin scent at this point. Clean woods, soft musk, and a very subtle finish. Performance isn’t the strong point here, but the scent profile itself is good. Overall: Ginger + Mist fits a specific role in my collection. It’s a great morning or warm-weather scent, something easy to throw on and then reapply later in the day if needed. It’s subtle, clean, and inoffensive, which seems to be a consistent theme with this Michael Malul line. Not a beast mode fragrance by any means, but it definitely has a place for casual wear and warmer days
