Today in NY I reached for Barénia Pleine Fleur from Hermès. Hermès technically markets this one as a women’s fragrance, but I have never been too concerned about those labels. If I enjoy wearing it, that’s really all that matters to me. And today I absolutely do. What I’m enjoying most is the soft white-floral character. It feels bright, clean and polished, but there is enough warmth underneath it that it never feels overly delicate or fleeting. On a sunny, warm day like today, it just feels right. More importantly, it puts me in a good mood. There is something very easy and pleasant about catching it around myself during the day. It isn’t screaming for attention, but apparently it doesn’t exactly go unnoticed either… I’ve already gotten two compliments on it this morning. 😎 So I think I’ll happily ignore the “for women” designation and just take the compliments. 😂 If it smells great on you and makes you feel good wearing it, wear it. People find it similar to Creed Bois du Portugal, which I’ve smelled before, but right now can’t confirm it nor deny it. However, I’m very impressed by Lalique Pour Homme. Created by Maurice Roucel, opens with a very classic and vintage fougère aroma accentuated by the lavender, green, and citrusy freshness. However, that vintage nuance dissipates while transitioning to a more citrusy/sweet and woody intensified aroma, that makes it feel a perfect contender to the actual modern counterparts. The dry down feels more balanced while the florals blending with mossy and woodsy nuances and the citrusy/sweet accord as the backdrop. I’m so glad I came across to this one. I would say, (as many elders in our society) this is an underestimated and prejudged scent due to its age and edge, but does have a lot to offer. There is no way to appreciate it if isn’t fully wear. It’s multifaceted, complex, very alluring, masculine, and elegant fragrance. It’s a whole year round and any occasion scent, with good projection and great longevity.
