What’s one scent you respect but wouldn’t buy a full bottle of?
This question came up for me after my recent wear of Argos Triumph of Bacchus. I enjoyed trying it and can respect the composition, but it made me think about how many fragrances I like and appreciate without feeling the need to own a full bottle. Not everything has to be a miss or a hit. Some scents are just interesting experiences rather than long-term keeps. What do y'all think? What’s a fragrance you respect and enjoy, but wouldn’t commit to a full bottle of?
SOTD: Tom Ford Fucking Fabulous
Wearing Fucking Fabulous today and decided to really pay attention to how it unfolds on skin. The opening came across very dry to me. Almost an earthy, dusty wood feel with just a faint hint of sweetness. Not dirty or animalic, just that dry, sun-warmed earth kind of impression. A few minutes in, I started picking up clary sage and a touch of lavender in the air. Both stayed pretty restrained and never went aromatic or barbershop. They softened the dryness without changing the overall character. Now in the drydown, those aromatics have mellowed out and I’m getting a subtle leather note. It’s not loud or animalic leather, more muted and suede-like, blended into a soft warmth with a light sweetness underneath. I can still catch it from about six inches away, but it stays close and controlled. Overall this one feels very textural and intimate. Less about obvious notes and more about how it feels on skin as it settles. This was a gift from a friend and so it will stay on the shelf. I don’t see myself reaching for this one often.
