SOTD: YSL Tuxedo Sharp Patchouli
This is a sample that I thought was going to be the OG Tuxedo, but nope, I ordered the wrong one. And it's really more of a cool-weather fragrance.
YSL Tuxedo Sharp Patchouli is one of the best examples of a modern “dressed up” fragrance done right. Released in 2015 as part of the Le Vestiaire des Parfums line and created by Juliette Karagueuzoglou, it opens with violet leaf, bergamot, and coriander before moving into a spicy floral heart with rose and black pepper. The base is where the magic happens: patchouli, ambergris, and bourbon vanilla.
What makes Tuxedo special is the balance. The patchouli is earthy and smoky, but it’s polished instead of dirty, and the vanilla smooths everything out without turning sweet. It smells refined, confident, and expensive without screaming for attention.
This is absolutely an evening fragrance for me — dinners, date nights, formal events, cooler weather, or anytime you want to smell elegant without going old-school barbershop. Performance is excellent too. One of those fragrances where you keep catching little waves of it hours later.
