End of January Check-In
We're about 4 weeks into the year. Most guys who started something new on January 1st are hitting a wall right now. The "New Year, New Me" energy is gone. The motivation has faded. The workouts that felt exciting in Week 1 now feel like obligations. Your body is sore. You're questioning if this is actually working. This is the moment 80% of guys quit. Where are you right now? - Started strong, now struggling? What changed? - Thinking about quitting? What's making you want to stop? Be honest. - Still going but not sure you're doing it right? What feels off? - Nailing it 4 weeks in? What's actually different about your approach? We don't back off as we get older. We get smarter. And you know what that means? If you're a guy who's been training smart for years, who's learned what actually works for a 40+ body, who's rebuilt yourself - you have something to teach. So here's the deal: New guys: Post your situation. Don't wait for me to answer. What's holding you back? Be specific. Experienced guys: Reply. You know what works. Share it. 2-3 sentences. You're not writing a thesis - you're answering a brother. The standards we're building here aren't just physical. They include showing up for each other. Post it below. No perfect answers. Just the truth.

I am experiencing the same thing as Carl. Being retired and the middle of winter, eating in between meals is an issue. When I snack, I try to eat some “healthy” but that doesn’t always happen. I just had a workout plan developed by a personal trainer at the fitness center I belong to. We discussed my age and my goals. I’m hoping that hands on coaching will keep me on track.

Thanks for the reminder on the mystical and bloodwork. Just scheduled them. One question, how does taking Creatine effect your bloodwork results. I have heard different things. I take it pre workout .
Diet
My diet throughout the day is good i seem to do really well until the evening. Throughout the evening is my downfall i snack quiet a bit whether its boredom im a little unsure but once im home and relaxed im am up and down to the kitchen. ( Bit of a cookie monster) Any advice on ways to minimise this? Or any healthy snacks i can try instead.

All great ideas. I have the same issue as the day winds down I want to snack. The last thing I eat for the day is fruit, either a bowl of mixed berries, an apple with a little peanut butter or an orange. Seems to take the edge off as I try to end all eating by 7 pm.
Here's something most men don't realize until it's too late
Your body doesn't respond to intensity anymore the way it did at 25. Pushing harder doesn't equal better results. It just means longer recovery, beat-up joints, and spinning your wheels. The guys making progress after 40? They're not training harder. They're training smarter. Lower weight, higher control. Fewer sessions, better recovery. Less ego, more results. It's a complete mindset shift from what got you here. What took you the longest to accept about training after 40? Would love to hear your guys' discoveries/realizations training past 40.

I typically do cardio to warm up and cool down. I am a eliptical guy due to toe issues but periodically I do like to push it a little harder to get a sweat going. I also agree that it is a complete mindset change from going with heavier weights to lower weights, and more reps and sets. That's a mindset change that I am still working on.

Completed this workout this morning as a Super Set. Arms were tired when I got done but it was nice to feel like I pushed myself.đź’Ş

@Scott Lindwall nice work. Like your warm up and cool down work.
Looking for Workout Routine
First of all, I really enjoy your videos. I’m 66 and have been a dedicated gym regular for many years, mainly training to maintain muscle tone and manage my weight. I’ve recently decided to transition to working out at home and have invested in adjustable dumbbells, an adjustable bench, and I already own an Airdyne and a rower. I’m looking for a solid 5-day full-body routine I can follow. Do you have a video or a document that outlines a comprehensive plan? Thanks! Keith

I am looking forward to your structured programs. I am in the, "I know enough to be dangerous" phase. I am not sure which exercises fall under back and biceps, shoulders, etc. Need guidance. Used chatgpt and that helped somewhat. Any help in the meantime would be helpful. Thanks
