New Watch!
Okay. So. I wasn’t planning on buying a watch.
I’d popped into town to buy something unremarkable, and my local chain store jeweller had a 50% off sign in the window, with the usual asterisk. Worth popping in, I thought.
In the Bulova cabinet, at the back, they had the Bulova Jet Star with a red dial. I love that watch. It’s the first watch I decided I wanted when I entered the hobby earlier this year.
The price? Not the usual £450. It was £300. The exact price at which I always said I’d pull the trigger.
Strangely, the sticker wasn’t the customary red colour, so it didn’t match the sale price stickers on other reduced pieces. Odd, I shrugged, before approaching the sales assistant.
I tried on the watch. It looked great. Proportional and sleek. I had the strap reduced to best fit my twiglet wrists. Then the sales assistant rang it up.
£450.
Seems like there was a mistake, and the sticker price was incorrect. The sales assistant was apologetic. I was downbeat, but what can you do?
Hang on a sec, said the assistant. I’ll talk to my manager. She wandered away.
Two minutes later, she returned with a smile. Our mistake, she said. Wrong watch, wrong sticker, but not your fault. We can honour the sale at the advertised price. A saving of £150.
So. Now I have a new watch, and a huge smile on my face.
(Tomorrow: Day 1 of my three-day grace period of enjoying and sharing my new watch, with some customary action shots. See you then! 👍)
