Weekly Running Round Up
"Can you recommend a marathon training plan for (time)?"
A common question for me that
Which is interesting in the "information age"
Because of a bit of time online, including everyone's new mate, AI?
You can formulate a marathon plan for free to hit your next PB
That's NOT a secret
(In case you think I am doing myself out of business)
So if this is the case, why are people asking me?
Well, the answer is "gap"
People don't want a free plan
Because (checks notes)
You can get that online
People want an expert with EXPERIENCE to recommend a free plan
This gives extra reassurance that the plan is right
And, at a more sinister level
Makes the person recommending the plan a little bit responsible if it doesn't work
Do you know why people hire a coach?
Structure, accountability, and results
Not a plan
People may convince themselves that their plan is better than the next persons
But (checks notes again), we already know that plans are really a dime a dozen at the recreational runner level
It's the WHOLE package you invest in
The plan, the adaptability of the plan, the understanding of the plan, and then the constant execution
ChatGPT can't do that for you
Do you know why a lot of people hire me for their 2nd marathon?
Because they know that the first one could have been better
It's the old expression that goes
"Go cheap, pay twice"
And if you have ever tried to go cheap on DIY or house repairs
You know what I mean here
Back to the question then
Yes, I can recommend some good plans
Runner's World has some great ones
One helped me run my first sub-3 marathon at the age of 45
And then my 2nd at the age of 47
But that's me
In conclusion
Plans are plans
And if you can follow even a free online one?
You will run a marathon
The question is
Is that going to be enough?
If not....
Drop me a reply and let's chat.
Until next time.
