(Foundation) Definition Lead Generation is the process of finding potential customers, creating their interest, capturing their contact information, and turning them into paying customers in the future. The Lead Generation Process The process starts with identifying the right audience — meaning, who is the right type of customer for this particular business. From there, you grab their attention and create their interest. Once they are interested, you capture their contact information, nurture the lead, and finally make them ready for the sale. What is the Real Meaning of a "Lead"? A lead is a person who is interested in a product or service and has already provided their contact details. A lead is not just a follower or a website visitor. Lead = Interest + Contact Info What is Lead Generation in Business Terms? In business terms, lead generation is a system through which a business grabs attention, creates interest, and captures the contact of potential buyers. Simply put, it is about placing potential buyers systematically in front of the business. Lead vs. Prospect vs. Customer A lead is someone who is interested and whose contact information you have — for example, a person who has filled out a form. A prospect is a qualified lead who has shared their budget, their needs, and their intent, meaning they are interested and ready to buy. A customer is a person who has already paid — someone who has purchased your product or service. Is Lead Generation Marketing or Sales? Lead generation, marketing, and sales are different names for a single process at different stages. Marketing is about attracting people and creating their interest. Sales is the process of closing the deal with those people. Lead generation is the bridge that connects the two.
