There was a breaking news story on Tuesday that was more of a brief blip on the radar of the mainstream media ... but it's one that should be getting far more attention than it is. On Tuesday (8/17/2026), the US Department of Justice announced that 17 Iranians connected with the Mabna Institute have been charged with having conducted cyber theft on behalf of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to prosecutors, these Islamic Regime hackers have been hacking and stealing intellectual property for the Islamic Regime since at least 2013. These guys have allegedly been carrying out cyber theft with multiple intrusions targeting the computer systems of 144 US Universities, 178 foreign Universities, at least 42 US based private sector companies, and at least 11 foreign private sector companies. The DOJ says that the group has stolen at least 31 terabytes of information, having targeted the accounts of over 100,000 professors around the world. They were able to successfully compromise the email accounts of over 8,000 professors, stealing untold riches associated with the intellectual property of these professors across all fields of research and academic disciplines.
