Are You Leading the Business or Just Keeping It Running?
We're officially halfway through the year.
This is a good time to ask yourself a question that isn't about revenue, deals, or KPIs.
Are you leading your business... or are you just keeping it running?
There's a big difference.
Keeping the business running often looks like:
- Constantly putting out fires
- Making every decision yourself
- Staying busy but not moving forward
- Feeling like the business can't function without you
Leading the business looks more like:
- Setting a clear direction for your team
- Building systems that reduce bottlenecks
- Coaching people instead of solving every problem
- Spending time on work that moves the business forward
Take a few minutes and rate yourself from 1–10 on these questions:
✅ Am I spending more time working on the business than in it?
✅ Does my team know what success looks like without me reminding them?
✅ Have I delegated responsibilities that someone else could own?
✅ Are my weekly priorities aligned with my long-term goals?
✅ If I stepped away for a week, would the business continue to operate effectively?
No one's audit is perfect. The goal isn't to score a 10, but it's to identify your next area for growth.
