Why Tai Chi and Qi Gong specifically?
Most people assume balance comes down to leg strength. Leg strength matters — and these exercises will build it — but it's only part of the picture. Balance actually depends on how well your brain, breathing, posture, inner ear, and muscles all coordinate together in real time. That's exactly what Tai Chi and Qi Gong train. The slow, controlled movements force your nervous system to practice the same coordination it needs for everyday moments — stepping off a curb, turning around in the kitchen, catching yourself if you stumble. It's not random, generically framed as "gentle exercise" — the movements are special because of what they ask of your balance and coordination systems. As a Kinesiologist, that's the lens I bring to teaching. Every movement has a purpose, every breathing pattern has a reason, and every exercise is chosen because of how it helps you move through daily life — not just because it's part of a traditional form.
