you've most likely covered this off in this group before my time and I just wanted to throw it up here as a reminder to everyone. I'm heavily involved in football coaching, and we consistently see 'limiting beliefs' as one of the biggest reasons why keepers and other players don't reach their potential.
Limiting beliefs are beliefs or decisions I've made about myself which stop me from reaching the levels that I want to get to.
For example:
'I want to be a top-class goalkeeper, but how could I possibly be a top-class goalkeeper when none of my family were involved in goalkeeping before? I haven't got the experience. Nobody that I know has ever been involved in goalkeeping in my life before this. - LIMITING BELIEF
'I want to be a top-class goalkeeper, but I don't have the physique or the agility to get me where I want to go' - LIMITING BELIEF
'I want to be a top-class goalkeeper, but my family and my coaches are not well connected enough to get me into the right development programmes' - LIMITING BELIEF
See what I mean?
The trick to overcoming a limiting belief or a limiting decision is to have a think about 'what else I could believe' or 'what else I could decide' that will lead me down a different path to a different, better result.
Anybody got any other examples of limiting beliefs?
