For my Thursday Thoughts, I want to share the lessons I have learned from my own goalkeeper journey — from being a young keeper dreaming of becoming a professional, to achieving that dream, then starting Just4Keepers in 1998 and helping tens of thousands of goalkeepers and parents around the world. My hope is that my experience can help you avoid mistakes, build confidence, and have a better goalkeeper journey than I did. A lot of young goalkeepers think getting scouted is all about making world-class saves. It isn’t. Yes, saves matter. But scouts are watching everything. They look at your body language, handling, communication, distribution, decision-making, bravery, attitude, and consistency. They also watch what you do when the ball is nowhere near you. My advice to you is: ✅ Stay switched on for the full game ✅ Communicate even when you are not involved ✅ Work on your full goalkeeper game ✅ Show calm body language ✅ Stop relying on one big save to impress people What are you now going to do with this advice? Guys, first of all, I apologise for being slow with the glove competitions lately. Members who have been here a while will know I used to run at least 2 goalkeeper glove competitions every month. Sadly, I stopped because nearly every competition had one or two people trying to abuse it, and if I’m honest, I got cheesed off with it. Also, when someone won gloves, the only thing I asked was for a photo wearing their J4K gloves. This was simply so members could see the competitions were genuine and that I was actually giving away free gloves. Unfortunately, only around 1 in 3 winners sent a photo, even after promising they would. again disheartening how some people are, hence why i stopped. I know the vast majority of this community are genuine, but because people are now joining from all over the world, we are sadly going to get one or two, who are not like the rest of us. HOWEVER... I genuinely want the competitions back. I believe they engage younger goalkeepers, educate them and help them improve. So lets try again. So this is the new weekly competition: (Coming Soon) Upload a VIDEO — not a photo — to your social media. Tag J4K, and then also share the video link inside the new SHARE Discussion Category above. Please make sure you post the link in the SHARE above, because sometimes my team can miss social media tags. Every week, my team will choose the best video based on: - Quality of content - Length of video — around 1 minute is ideal - How clearly J4K goalkeeper gloves or gear are featured or mentioned The winner will receive FREE J4K goalkeeper gloves. IMPORTANT: Once this competition starts, anyone trying to abuse this competition, pester my team to pick them to win or ruin it for genuine goalkeepers will be removed from the competition and the community. Myself and my team simply cannot waste time dealing with this type of poor behaviour anymore.
