My partner has been asking me to bake my high-protein banana loaf with raspberries and blueberriesβ¦ so I finally said, okay letβs do it.
But then I asked him:βAre you tracking your meals?β
He goes, βYeahβ¦ I just started today.β π
Perfect timing. Instead of me doing what I usually do (aka doing everything for him π
), I flipped it into a teaching moment.
β‘οΈ I had HIM create the recipe in MyFitnessPal
β‘οΈ I had HIM enter the ingredients
β‘οΈ I had HIM learn the process
Because hereβs the truthβ¦
Just copying my tracking isnβt the same as understanding it. And since Iβm using regular bananas π (I am also allergic to it), it doesnβt make sense for me to log something Iβm not even eating.
So I told him straight:
π If this matters to you, put in the work
π If you donβt care, Iβm not spending extra time weighing, logging, and doing the mental load for you!!
Tracking takes:
- Time β±οΈ
- Effort π
- Consistency π
And I want him to feel that⦠not just benefit from mine.
Real talk: We can support people, but we canβt do the work for them. Sometimes the best way to help someone is to teach them responsibility instead of making it easy.
π¬ Question for you: Have you ever had to βstep backβ and let someone learn the hard way instead of doing it for them?
