THOUGHTS??
What's up y'all this community is getting huge and I am loving everyone's thoughts and feedback! My question to you guys is what is one thing you would tell someone who just joined this community?
A win!
What’s up guys. Haven’t been in here for a bit due to life, but I wanted to share a win. Over the last 2 weeks I’ve gained over 2,000 followers on social media and have been getting a steady stream of inquiries about my basketball training business. To be honest, I knew social media was important, but I didn’t realize how powerful it really was until I started posting consistently. For years I treated content like an afterthought. Now I’m seeing firsthand that every post is an opportunity to help someone, build trust, and put your business in front of people who need what you offer. The biggest lesson for me has been this: You don’t need a massive following. You need consistent visibility. The more you show up, the more opportunities you create. Still a long way to go, but it’s encouraging to see the work paying off. Looking forward to seeing where this takes the business over the next few months. Thanks to everyone in this group who shares advice and experiences. It’s helped more than you know. 💪🏽
Introduction
My name is Joe Good, and I'm the owner and operator of JGB Sports Facility out in Napoleon, Ohio. I’m excited to join this group, connect with other basketball minds, and share a bit about how we’re working to elevate player development and grow the game in our area. At JGB, our philosophy is all about blending structured, high-level curriculum with data-driven training. Here is a quick look at what we are doing to build better hoopers: - Targeted Skill Labs: We've developed a specialized curriculum that starts with our Fundamentals Lab. Once players master those basics, they graduate directly into our specialized programs like the Shot Lab (where we focus heavily on our shooting "Blueprints"), the Court Commander Lab, and the Finisher's Blueprint Lab. - Data-Driven Development: We believe in tracking real progress rather than just passing the eye test. We integrate tools like Dr. Dish shooting machines and the HomeCourt app, evaluating our athletes with a strict 1–10 scoring rubric to measure mechanics, footwork, and decision-making. - Community & Competition: We are big on keeping the competitive spirit alive locally. We regularly run morning Micro-Camps, Fall, Spring and Summer 3-on-3 leagues (Snake Draft every week, players have different team and earn points based off team wins, ties and team points) , and community events like our upcoming Hoops for Lane 3-on-3 charity tournament to give players a stage to compete and give back. We are in process of organizing our own digital community on Skool for our own athletes, so I know how valuable this platform can be. I'm looking forward to learning from all of you, sharing ideas on facility operations and training, and talking hoops. Here is a link to our JGB Sports Facility. I like to share this because we want feedback from others on how we can best improve our facility as well as our programming. https://www.jgbsportsfacility.com/
What Drives Winning Event With Jay Wright And Brett Ledbetter
Here are 3 Takeaways I wanted to share from attending the “What Drives Winning” Event at Villanova. These lessons were directed towards college coaches, but I think they can be applied to player development coaches and players as well. 1. Be Your True Authentic Self Early at Hofstra, Jay Wright was losing and almost got fired. He thought he was doing everything right as he was doing exactly what his legendary mentors Rollie Massimino and Pat Riley did to run their teams, but it wasn’t working. He decided that if he was going to get fired, he was going to give it one last shot coaching how he believes he should coach. Not in a selfish way, but everyone leads differently. What one coach excels at, you might be terrible at. Instead of trying to be a clone of your mentors, learn from them but figure out your own strengths and use them. Once he was able to do this and come up with his core values that he believed in, he was able to get his team to buy in and found success. 2. Detach From Results "Give someone everything they’ve ever wanted and see how miserable they become." Human nature makes us feel satisfied after a win, but you have to fight that comfort. Hold your team to a higher standard regardless of the outcome. You can win games on pure talent without playing with toughness or pride, but that won't help you reach your full potential. Did we play as hard as we could have today? Did we play for each other? Build a standard and hold your guys to it, no matter the results, and embrace the journey. 3. Habits > Motivation Jay admitted he was the worst pre-game speech guy in the world because he believes speeches rlly don't matter that much. Real preparation happens when you battle every day in practice to build elite habits. You can write the greatest pre-game script ever, but ten minutes into the game, guys are going to be tired as shit. When exhaustion hits, motivation goes out the window and players revert to their habits. If you prepare them in the offseason and everyday at practice, that is what will help them in high pressure situations, not a motivational speech.
