Fragrance World / French Avenue — House Review Fragrance World is one of those Middle Eastern houses I have spent enough time with to know exactly what I think of them. They make a ton of fragrances, chase popular DNA constantly, and give people an inexpensive way to experience the general idea of much more expensive designer and niche fragrances. For what they are trying to do, they are actually pretty good at it. But I also think you have to separate Fragrance World from French Avenue a little bit, because to my nose French Avenue is generally where things start getting more interesting. Fragrance World The regular Fragrance World releases are very much in the affordable clone-house category for me. You can find some absolute bargains. Occasionally they get surprisingly close to the fragrance they are inspired by, especially once you get past the opening. But you also get plenty of fragrances where the cheaper construction is obvious. The openings can be harsh, overly sweet, synthetic, or just a little rough around the edges. Then after 15–30 minutes everything settles down, and you start getting much closer to the DNA they were trying to recreate. That is something I have noticed with a lot of inexpensive Middle Eastern clones. They can nail the idea of the fragrance without necessarily recreating the refinement, texture, or transitions of the original. And that distinction matters to me more now than it did when I first started buying clones. Earlier in my fragrance journey, I chased hundreds of these inexpensive alternatives because it was exciting being able to experience so many different scent profiles without spending much money. Eventually, though, you start recognizing the shortcuts. The same woody ambers. The same musky bases. The same sweet amber materials. The same aggressive opening before everything smooths out. That doesn't mean they smell bad. Some smell very good. It just means smelling similar and being constructed similarly are two different things.

I've been intrigued by Sartorial for a long time, and it all started with a description that I couldn't get out of my head when I heard a brother here describe it as a freshly pressed white business shirt. I've been trying to find a decant for quite a while, and thanks to Joe A.'s Decants, I finally got the chance to wear it. And now that I have, I understand why that description stayed with me. Sartorial is immediately fresh, crisp and airy. The lavender and aldehydic character gives it that almost freshly pressed quality, while beeswax, leather, woods and a soft muskiness give it warmth and depth as it develops. The closest I've ever come to the image I get with this is Prada L'Homme. Unfortunately, L'Homme is very iris forward, and I've never been a fan of iris. Sartorial gives me that same image without the iris getting in the way. There is something very masculine about it, without it being dark, loud or aggressive. And the musk is important here. The freshness gets my attention, but that soft muskiness is what keeps drawing me back to my skin. It gives the fragrance a warmth and sensuality that I really enjoy. As an EDT, it projects predictably in an alluring way. The sillage is moderate and noticeably softer as it dries down. The longevity is more about how it returns to you in your own scent bubble with a muskiness that give hours of pleasure.
