I'm methodically working through all my collection and when I started putting them on the shelves, I came across this little beauty and chuckled a bit... Aaron Terence Hughes - Red Fever Aaron has what I like to call a "cult following"! Aaron is a fragrance creator, influencer and overall nice guy! His "lots of moving hands and lots of fragrance reviews" generates a huge amount of discussion in frag comm as well as here in the #Brotherhood. When this one was first released, I gave a sample to my wife, who then said she absolutely, positively required a full bottle! ATH fragrances were hard to come by back then (as they are now, I suppose) and it was almost impossible to find a full bottle of Red Fever without being scalped! To make matters worse was the scare of discontinuance! I looked high and low, kept a finger on MaxAroma's "Buy Now" button, and didn't sleep until I scored a bottle for my lovely bride! I got to smelling it too and figured, hey why not a back up bottle that I can personally use! So now, we have two! There's something very "Italian" with the house Acqua di Parma and when I first got Colonia Essenza, it was an instant hook! I dove into the Blu Mediterranean series and fell in love with this one in short order... Acqua di Parma Chinotto Ligura Acqua di Parma Chinotto di Liguria came out in 2018 as part of the house’s Blu Mediterraneo collection, with perfumer François Demachy behind the composition. The whole idea stems from Liguria (a stretch of northwestern Italian coastline) and the chinotto, a small, bitter citrus fruit that’s also used in Italy’s famously bittersweet chinotto soft drink. What makes this one interesting is that it isn’t your typical bright, sugary Mediterranean citrus. Chinotto and mandarin give the opening a tart, slightly bitter edge, then rosemary, geranium, jasmine and cardamom bring in a green, herbal character before it settles onto musk and patchouli. The result is fresh and sunny, but with a pleasantly bitter, grown-up streak running through it, less “lemonade on the beach,” more like sipping an Italian bitter soda overlooking the Ligurian coast! I distinctly remember having to expand my fragrance storage places to hanging wire baskets in closets! This whole series, with their large format (5 - 6 oz.) bottles forced me from my original little shelves to larger and more space demanding baskets. That's when my wife started eyeing me, and my collection, sideways...
